“Great family gathering place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2011

This is a family owned and run hotel. It is comfortable and clean: hygiene is a top priority. The rooms are large and modern, with traditional decor. When we had to change rooms due to steep stairs (no lift but only two floors) Management went to considerable effort for us as the hotel was fully booked. (Book early, this is a popular place!) Little children and a disabled senior found the stone and paving pathways uneven and sharp on little feet but we all preferred this to concrete. The restaurant is next to the pool. The food is simple and cheap. There are lots of other restaurants nearby, but this one is brilliant for families. There are two pools and only once in two weeks did we feel crowded. Rooms are cleaned daily; house staff are courteous and helpful. Internet access can be purchased cheaply. either as wifi or in a private bureau. Reliable and inexpensive childcare was no problem. Breakfasts are provided on a set choice menu (or a la carte if you want to pay). The Superior rooms were very spacious and comfortable. When we requested a room change, a Deluxe grade was the only one available. It, too, was large and airy, and very comfortable albeit with less ornate furnishings and a slightly smaller bathroom. Upstairs we had a lovely balcony, downstairs a nice but smaller terrace. Both rooms were quiet and private. Laundry services are very cheap. Advice was given on trips and visits with no pressure to use the hotel service. Transfers from the airpot to the hotel and back were reasonably priced. Use of the hotel driver service is recommended because the drive from the airport is 2-3 hours (and not all airport taxis know where the Rambutan is!). As a family gathering place, we couldn't have chosen better: Rambutan is quiet and uncrowded, and safe and comfortable with a quiet charm and a caring attitude.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms quieter, balconies have a better view. Book early, deluxe or Superior.

Thank you for your comments and we are pleased you enjoyed our place. Just would like to point out the deluxe rooms are the larger room compared to the superior ones and deluxe rooms also have the option of internal connection.

This hotel has as its main advantage over others, a distict lack of corporatisation. It is a family run business run hands on by your host and hostess, Richard and Tini Hood. Richard is an astute Aussie, although he seems to have some very Brittish, Basil Fawlty type ways, and Tini is a more astute local Balinese girl. Together with their beautiful daughters, Helena and Cyntia, they provide a totally relaxing atmosphere where your own kids can interact. My son and I took a cooking class offered by the hotel with Tini's sister and a friend, both renowned chefs, and were instructed in the delights of Indonesian cuisine. Starting by buying the ingredients required fresh from the markets in Singaraja, themselves an eye opener to the sensibilities of westerners, we ended up eating our labours for lunch and feeling very pleased (and full) with our efforts. We also had the most spectacular diving experience of our lives off Menjangan Island, booked by our hosts.
All over, first rate, luxurious and fun.

There was a mistake in the booking but the owner solved it very well. We staid in room Permaisuri, this room is very nice for a family. Our kids made a lot of friends with other kids in the pool.

my husband and i spent 6 nights at this hotel and liked it mostly for the location. its right in the heart of lovina beach with lots of eating options around it and the beach is 2 min walk away. other than that we were left feeling a little disappointed.unfortunatly for us the owners were away during our stay and it was obvious with the staff . all very friendly of course but slow and un attentive. no service around the pool, our dirty dishes left on our porch for 2 days and just a general air about the place that i'm sure would be different if the boss was around.
the presentation of the room upon your arrival is just beautiful. flowers everywhere. i loved it. the room was quite big and clean,no king bed though which is crazy considering the size of the room. no phone in the room either which was so frustrating as our room was at the back of the resort and walking to reception for things was so annoying.they provide a menu in your room but if you want to order anything you have go to the resturant to get it. our gas bottle for the hot water ran out and the only way to get it replaced is to go reception. let me just say though that the hot water( when the gas is replaced ) is the best in bali and probably because it is on gas. it was constant and the pressure was fantastic which if you have been to bali before you will know is very hard to find!
the pool area by the resturant is nice but crowded and the other pool is deserted because it doesnt get any sun. very nice gardens though and a very relaxed feel to the place. the spa there is absolutly fantastic. the best massage in bali i'd say! i also had a facial which was just perfect. lovely staff working there and a very high standard in presenation etc. worth the money and only a little bit more expensive than elsewhere. things like that are not as cheap anywhere in lovina as thay are in kuta.
we booked a dolphin trip through the hotel which was the same price as elsewhere so you dont need to shop around. it was definatly worth doing. we also booked a trek through the hotel which was defintly a high light for us but hard work! we loved it though.
the food at the hotel was ok a little pricey but on par with most hotels.
all in all our stay was pleasant enough

This place is wonderful. The grounds are gorgeous and the pool is extremely inviting. They offer a wide variety of room options for all price ranges. The rooms further in near the main pool and restaurant were wonderful. The temple, sitting areas and spa are added bonuses. The service was great and it's close to all the restaurants and bars. This would be a great choice for families. Be sure to check out Blue Lagoon bar across the way, tucked behind Triple 9 and say hi to Sebastian.

Room Tip: Book ahead if you go during high season.

Stayed here for three nights. When we first arrived we had mixed feelings: the booked deluxe room seemed very dark, the shower head was loose next to the shower, there was no toilet paper at the attachment and the bath room seemed somehow moldily. But I guess it was mainly because we came from a perfect hotel from Ubud were we felt like in paradise and were sad that we had to leave. Actually the hotel grounds are really pretty and relaxing. We had the feeling that the hotel was pretty empty - lot of free rooms. The pool area is nice and I had one of the best lunches I had during our vacation. I don't remember the name of the dish, but it was chicken wrapped in banana leaves....very yummie! The scrambled eggs with bacon for breakfast were pretty small portioned - if you are a big breakfast person than you might stay hungry. Lovina in general was pretty dead and boring - were happy that we had booked a tour with our driver during the day. The hotel spa seemed very pricy to me - I went to the Araminth spa on the same street like the hotel and had the best massage there (the so called "Wellbeing massage"). It is also not a very cheap spa but they took great care of me and their surroundings are beautiful - worth every rupiah! I personally would not suggest to stay in Lovina, but if you want to stay there, than Rambutan is pretty sure a good choice to stay!

Thank you for your comments. Regarding Lovina, well it is centrally located to many lovely areas and the great thing about here there are no traffic jams, compared to the south, where you drive out into an immediate traffic jam. There are some stunning water falls and my favoutite and un-touristic location is Lemukih falls and you can go on an amazing trek through mixed farm land, rice terracing and the location of the falls is in a jungle setting. The best snorkeling is just an hours drive to the national park and the local snorkeling is ok to. Dolphin watching is also popular, as well as very good fishing. Lovina has developed quite a bit and there are many good restaurants and a lively night scene of laid back bars, with some very talented musicians. From my experience, Lovina is anything but boring and is a great palce to visit on a tour around Bali.

We stayed in one of the smaller rooms by the front, which was just large enough for 2 people and had a nice porch. The main pool was wonderful. The grounds are so lush and well taken care of, really beautiful.

Breakfast was good, and the other food in the restaurant was good as well.

It was nice to see the dogs running around the property. They are well behaved and very sweet, they don't pay any attention to you unless you call them over.

It would be nice if they offered free wifi, as most hotels do nowadays, and there's a few cafes in the area that do. They do have 2 computers you can use though, not too expensive.
