NEGATIVES.

My daughter and I spent 2 nights in a deluxe room. The extra cost (deluxe bit) included 2 double beds, and a promised view of the Golf course or gardens. We actually got the car park. The room was advertised as having on suite shower and bath. It had a shower attachment over the bath which is not the same thing.
The room unfortunately was not as clean as it should have been. The bathroom was very dusty and had mould in the corner of the shower door and around the bath edges. On the 2nd day and after maid service, the bathroom floor was covered in what appeared to be shake'n'vac that had not been cleaned up. Generally the bathroom was tired and in need of a revamp.
The bedroom carpet was very stained and not at all inviting. The beds were clean and comfortable but scatter cushions on the pillows were stained (yuk)
The pool area and changing facilities were the same, slightly unsavoury and very tired.
Nice but not luxury 4 star.

POSITIVES.

Despite the above, we will return because the positives outweigh the negatives. All staff were exceptionally friendly and professional.
We visited the Lilac room for some spa treatments and could not have had a better experience.
The brassiere and Terrace bar were great and all food and service excellent.
Generally the building, décor, grounds and facilities are really lovely and we did have a thoroughly nice time.

Our check in resembled easyjet check in. But perhaps that was because it was bank holiday saturday. When we got into our room it appeared as though the maid run off without finishing the cleaning. The bathroom floor was sprayed with pink detergent and not washed off. The mirror in the bedroom was leading against the window instead of hanging on the wall. It took the hotel staff 20minutes to get someone to come to our room.

The hotel's only restaurant was enormous (the same place where the breakfast is served) and resembled airport lounge with kids running around and people picking up food at the buffet. The food was only ok but with a bill for two of over £200 I would expect something quite special. We went for the a la carte option and had to wait around for ages between courses. There was also a carvery and buffet salad and desert option that looked very unappetising. We were offered 50% off our bill for waiting over 45min for our main course, that was a nice gesture, but did not brighten the experience.

The SPA reminded me of a council run leisure centre, the swimming pool is very busy and humid. Generally the facilities were very dated.

The bar area in the main hall looked quite nice, but the food was very disappointing.

Breakfast was disgusting, the hot items were very greasy and overcooked and the scrambled eggs were green. There was a huge queue for the toaster and the coffee tasted really bad. Again it was so busy and we were sitting miles away from the food.

Overall, the hotel had too many rooms for its facilities. Felt quite ran down at places and had a feeling of an all inclusive resort for families or mature couples.

Dear Anna _2321

Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback on your recent break at the hotel. I am sorry to hear that there were aspects of your stay which did not meet your expectation.
The hotel is very popular during bank holidays due to it's ideal location for the Norfolk broads, family attractions and the historic city of Norwich. All our team work hard to ensure that all our guests have a wonderful time with us and we have taken on board your feedback.
I do hope that you will consider returning to the hall in the future and if there is anything I can do please contact me.

Kind Regards

If like us you like to party in style on New Years Eve this is the place to go. We have tried many other hotels but none match the style service and easy opulence of the Dunston Hall party.
the fun starts the minute you arrive with cocktails served at check-in. Book into your comfortable room then join the Afternoon Tea party for more warm drinks cakes and relax in the comfortable public areas.

In the evening join the party and unlike many hotels where you are rationed to one glass of bubbly they serve you with a variety of Champagne, bucks fizz or non-alcoholic. This is where you get to mix with old friends or make new ones.

The big tables of 10 means you get to meet even more people all committed to making the night a good party atmosphere. The food is brilliant, this time we had a venison starter on par with the best restaurants despite the mass catering challenges. Wine flows ad-lib, the staff are happy smiley and so helpful you have to tip big.

The bands are always great and the disco get the dance floor packed through to the close, just after the early morning bacon rolls.
see you there next year.

Room Tip: Get there early for the Afternoon Tea. The rooms are great but the deluxe rooms are worth the extra.

I treated my husband for his birthday and we had an amazing time, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the food was to die for in the bar and restaurant. Our room was lovely and spacious and clean. The atmosphere was relaxed and the views over the golf course were fantastic. Highly recommend and will stay there again. Perfect!

What an amazing experience. It was our 35th wedding anniversary and from the moment we entered your beautiful hotel we were made to feel so special. Our Suite was amazing (upgraded by our children +a bottle of Moët at dinner) and the chocolates, card and wine in our room from the staff was such a lovely touch. All the staff were so attentive to our needs nothing was to much trouble. Paul and Leanne who looked after us on Saturday night in the restaurant are a credit to you and also the lady ( I think she must have been a restaurant manager on Saturday night) who listed shops for me to find an outfit for my sons wedding. I found one!!!!!!!!!!! Definately a hotel to come back to.x

Room Tip: Pine suite is spacious and very comfortable

Booked for opulence and pampery and on arrival first look around exceeded expectation. Dimly lit yet rich in deep glow, the corridors seemed endless and encompassing as the directions to the room proved faultless by the exceptionally professional and friendly reception staff.
The room was expecting and enveloping drawing me in for the eve with the most massive king bed to be lost in overnight.
Will most certainly look to book again later in the year.

Stayed for 1 night on the £119 dinner bed and breakfast package.
Located the hotel easily, plenty of parking available. Check in was swift and smooth. Stayed in standard double room which was a good size. Small bathroom but did have a bath and shower.
Was expecting a bottle of wine to be in the room upon arrival, which it was not. Spoke to reception and they informed us to ask at dinner, which we did. Worked out to our advantage really because we would of probably drunk the bottle if it was in the room and ordered another during dinner.
Dinner was a little confusing, buffet or menu options available. All 3 courses were available in self service buffet or you could order from the monthly menu, or you could order from the a la carte menu and pay the difference in price. Starter buffet was disappointing, not a great selection and only cold options, no bread to go with the pate and no soup?? Jugs of sauces wouldnt pour and no spoons available. Dinner buffet was a choice of carvery, fish or vegetarian. Meats on the carvery were fantastic and the vegetables were cooked to perfection and hot. Desert buffet, only cold deserts, I would say passable but not exceptional.

Breakfast was buffet self service with some options available from a small menu.
Quality of food was not that same as experienced at dinner. Greasy oily bacon, small sausages and cold has browns. Table also very crowded with milk jugs, teapots, coffee pots, side plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, butter, sugar!!! Left not much room to eat.

Used the swimming pool on site. Was fairly clean and tidy but showing singes of ageing.

The grounds were well kept around the hotel, although you can't venture too far around the hotel as it is surrounded by "do not walk onto the golf course" signs.....

Good points
Staff were all very friendly, pleasant and happy.
For the price we paid represents excellent value for money.
Comfortable bed
Food was good to excellent.

Bad points
Strolling around the path around the outside of the hotel we discovered the staff smoking shelter .... Hope the kitchen isn't left in the same state..
Needs some care and attention, bath taps and shower heads really need replacing.
Ceiling fan in room didn't work. Mains fan located in the wardrobe. Needed to leave fan on and window open all night as room was stuffy.
View from room was of a flat roof only. No view of grounds or of anything interesting at all.

Suggestions
Don't try to be all things to all people. Simple things like serving tea and coffee at the table doesn't really go well with a help yourself buffet and the tables for two don't have sufficient space to cope with sugar, milk, pots etc.
Keep your staff smiling, they all seemed to enjoy their work whoever we spoke to or saw.
Speed up the lift! Takes ages to get from floor to floor. We never used I. The end as we gave up waiting.
Make sure wine is in room upon arrival, you lost a sale for a second bottle at dinner.

In all I would have no hesitation at staying again. Thoroughly enjoyable stay for the price. Well done.
