“Excellent and Picturesque Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

This is a fantastic beach and location. The beach sand is white and fine. The views from the beach are superb - surrounded by limestone hills. Railay is a great place to go to and stay. There are two scenic beaches here - Railay beach and Phranang beach, both within walking distance. Other activities is Railay include rock climbing, trekking, swimming, kayaking, island hopping, or just simpling lazing under the sun. Would definitely recommend this place for beach lovers and holiday makers.

“nice beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

railay west is a nice beach indeed--amazing views, however, would advice not to stay here for long. would be best to plan a day trip from krabi and return by evening. we got stuck here for three days due to rains. there wasn't much to do but for enjoying the beach.
there weren't many restaurant options as well and though we even we explored both east and west beaches and their cafes and restaurants, we ended up mostly sticking to our resort, which was also on the west railay beach.

“a must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

We went for a half day just to check it out in anticipation of a later trip to that area for longer. The next beach south of (east?) Railay was gorgeous and had nice swimming. The walk to Ton Sai was great along the coast and less preferred on the inland route. We are climbers but did not focus on that this trip, but were pleased to see that it looked great and interesting.
Getting back to Krabi was a bit harder so we took a long tail boat that was leaving instantly to a town west of Krabi and then a songthaew to Krabi all of which took the same amount of time as a boat ride (minus the waiting time for it to fill before leaving) and cost just a little less.

“Read me”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Railay beach has two sides, railay east and west. You will usually arrive at railay east depending on weather and brought to your hotel from there. Railay east is a mangrove, NOT a beach. Yes it's a bit dirty but don't travel to railay to stay on the east side. Stay on the west side. Which has a beautiful beach and accommodations.

There is litter all over the place on railay east and some of west but guess who put it there? All the tourists.

Railay east has cheaper food and hotels but isn't where you want to stay when you dream of coming to Thailand...

We loved our 4 day stay at Railay west and also enjoyed the near by beaches and view points...

“Railay Beach / Travel to Koh Tao / Viewpoint Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Raylay to Koh Tao Travel
We paid 900thb per person at our viewpoint hotel.
Left at 12pm on a slow boat which took 15 minutes to get to Ao Nang
We jumped in a minibus that took 10mins minibus to Krabi bus station, arrived at 1230
Left in Minibus at 1pm to go to Surat Thani.
Took 2hrs 30 which included a 5 minute toilet and snack break at a service station
Boat to Koh Tao left at 4, stopped at Koh Sumui
Arrived at 8pm
Boat has option of buying drinks sandwiches and snacks
MY TIP - get in the queue early to as a speed boat left but was only accessible for the first 20 people in the queue.

Raylay beach blog
Accomodation cheaper on east side of bay although the beach is no where near as nice Viewpoint hotel on this side in the far right hand side in the corner -Air con room was 950thb for 2 persons sharing double bed. Free breakfast
Nicer restaurants on other side of island. Recommend choosing from the BBQ as they cook a selection of chicken, steak or fresh fish on skewers with free use of the salad bar. We ate at the sun sea bar and ordered sartee chick skewers for a starter (5), beef skewer and chicken skewer as main with salad bar, one red wine, manago smoothie and Fanta = 1200thb
Other stands along this beach offer the same food without the luxury of sitting in a restaurant/buying drinks. Cheapest we found was similar sort of dishes for 100thb each.
MY TIP - Don’t be fooled by slow boats offering to take u to the west side (other side), it’s only a 5 min walk through to the other side. Eat on the West side as restaurants are much nicer and offer a better selection of food
