“Beautiful beaches and views, clean sand, calm bays - great spot!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

Railay has several bays, all of which are surrounded by amazing caves and limestone cliffs which are popular with climbers. The sand is clean and white and the water is not littered with rubbish which is a welcome change from many of the beaches and Islands in this region. There are, as many of the other reviews point out, quite a few day trippers to Railay and it does get somewhat crowded but not so much that you feel like you can't find a peace of beach tucked away that is your own little piece of heaven. Unless you trek back to the East side, there is no where to buy snacks and drinks near the caves and rock climbing areas, so take some with you - be warned, the monkey's will try to steal your food and they can get a bit aggressive. If you wander around to the West side of the Island, there are several restaurants with Thai and some western food. At night it is lovely to sit and watch the sunset, this is a popular evening event with visitors, probably because there is nothing else to do on Railay once the sun goes down. Great for all ages.

“Beatiful scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Railay is one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand. The downside is it is also as popular and quite crowded compared to other beaches.

“Rockclimbing. That's really it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

Laid-back place with annoying children sometimes but impressive cliffs to climb for people of all fitness levels. King Climber guides are really nice and patient =) Gets a bit slow at night so if you are the party sort, plan ahead.

“Nice Spot for a One-day Trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

Pros: very scenic beach on the west-side, decent jumping off point for tours of the surrounding islands (Phi Phi, Bamboo, etc.), laid back atmosphere, fun bar called Bamboo with Muay Thai ring and fire shows.

Cons: unless you are a rock climber, there is very little to do here. Unless you like dirty restaurants where you sit Indian style on mats, the restaurant selection is lacking. Railay East, where the majority of the action lies, is dirty and smelly.

In short, unless you are a climber or just want to read a book during the day, make Railay a day trip or one night trip.
