“OMG - Railay is the most beautiful place on this earth (I have seen so far anyways)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2011

We arrived at Diamond Cave only for us to have chosen the wrong dates for our booking, however they were so laid back and good about it, they put us into a larger room by the pool although we had booked a bungalow but we were moved to a bungalow the next morning when one became available. It was so cute, very basic but what you would expect from Railay. Railay is the most beautiful place I have ever seen, it is different from the other places in Thailand I had visited as it is so untouched and not nearly even half as westerised as other places. The man running Diamond Cave was real friendly, we met him every day whilst out for drinks or dinner etc and he always came to say hello (Railay is very small). Diamond Cave is very central and lies right in the middle of the strip (if you can call it that) which runs along the beach. Has a lovely pool area and laundry facility. It also has a mini market and a great facility that can arrange excursions etc. We did a boat trip and also went kayaking which was great.

Oh I almost forgot the amazing restaurant, they have a bar/restaurant and each night they have a full menu alongside a wonderful bbq with the most beautiful seafood, chicken/meat dishes served with corn, baked potato and salad, it was so wonderful and so so value for money. Plus cocktail hour seems to be all the time ;)

I was pleasantly surprised with the rooms at Diamond Cave Resort. I checked out the rooms next door which were more expensive and not at all nice and well kept. Diamond Cave was a gem by comparison. The staff were quite as on top of things as I would have preferred (only left one towel in the room) but the room was really quite nice and a good deal. I would definitely recommend Diamond Cave resort.

If we had viewed Diamond Cave before we booked then we certainly would not have stayed there. We made the mistake of booking the accommodation in Bangkok airport as we were concerned that due to it being peak season, we would struggle finding somewhere to stay. We ended up paying well over the odds for very average / poor accommodation.

Upon arrival we were shown to a very average bungalow, which was very basic and outdated. As with many old resorts around this area, the room smelled very damp and there was mold on the walls and headboard. We stayed in that room for one night and then asked to be moved. The manager was very helpful in this regard and we were moved into a 'delux' room the next day, this was essentially a very big version of the bungalow and was only marginally better. In addition, we had the added joy of a variety of wildlife living in the room; one of the chairs was making lots of noises and sounded like it was being eaten by something inside. The wardrobe was making similar noises and our friends had alot of cockroaches in their room. Also, the toilet did not work properly and kept filling up with water on it's own.

On the plus side, the restaurant was ok and the staff were very nice.

This place is ok as a budget option however the price does not reflect this. We would encourage anybody to vew the rooms before you book so you know exactly what you are letting yourself in for! In addition, makesure you dont pay over the odds.

There are lots of other good options in Railey and we would definately go back there but certainly not back to Diamond Cave.

Hotel looks nice on first appearances but had an incredibly bad ant problem - they were everywhere!!! Staff not helpful when told of the issue. As we were staying in Railey for a week we pre-booked to stay at Diamond Cave - once there we realised that we had paid 1000 baht per night MORE than other guests for the same room type! Hotel refused to refund the additional amount as we'd already paid online. Swimming pool small for the size of the hotel. Restaurant was one of the only positives!

Horrible very simple and old-fashioned resort. Our room and bathroom were full of ants. They were even in your bed! Bed clothes had lot of different stains inside. Smudgy room walls remember at least 20 seasons. Ladies in reception do not understand english. They were just smiling all time, when we told them about ants. I do not reccoment this resort to anybody, I think that any other hotel or bungalow at Railay is better.

(I actually stayed here September 2009, but that wasnt an option) At first our friends booked us into one of the cheap bunglows as thats where they (men) were staying. We inspected it when we arrived and very swiftyly decided to have a look at one of the bungalows next to it that had air conditioning. The grotty bungalow had a hole in the fly screens that enabled a burglar to reach his hand into the room and unlock it... this is what had happened to the previous occupants, and after we changed rooms our friend informed us he had seen a cockroach in our room but didnt want to tell us. cheers. they were really not very nice (especially for our incapacitated friend who had hurt his foot on a motorcycle accident).

Moving to one of the AC rooms was the best idea we had, and managed to get it for about £5 per person per night after some bargining with the staff who were ok but terribly sleazy. Room was nicely tiled with a dresser, tv (which had HBO although we didnt really watch it), towels and clean bedding. Was actually one of the best nights sleep I had in all of thailand. The AC was great as it got very hot in railay. And the shower was clean and warm. Keep an eye out for Tom (see photo) a tiny ginger tabby with manky eyes, who is very sweet and will pobably try and get into your room. After we let him in once he wouldnt leave, but he was cute.

Not sure about the travel agent on site. We booked a bus with them from Krabi to Bangkok and ended up getting robbed while we were asleep (even tho our bags were at our feet). Because we had no reciept and no name for the company going to the police was just for insurance purposes and the buggers will probably never get caught out.

Reception area is nice and clean (and air conditioned) and we left our bags there quite happily. Lots of cute cats.

I stayed at Diamond Cave Resort in July 2010. I don't know why they call it Diamond Cave Resort, its definatly not a resort, but it is a decent place for anyone traveling on a budget. The hotel is broken down into private bungalow type lodges. You have a view of a giant rock wall where people learn to rock climb during the day. Its in a very quiet location, but an easy walk to anywhere on the island. The pool is alright, but I spent 90% of my time on the beach which is a 5-10 min walk from the hotel. I never had a problem with hot water, which was great.

I checked in for one night with friends and then decided to extend my stay, make sure you ask for a discount for mutiple nights, they were flexible with the price.

I never had any problems with bugs, or dirty sheets. I found the hotel to be clean, safe and decent. I would recommend it to anyone traveling on a budget.
