“Worst hotel I have ever stayed in!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

The title says it all. I've travelled quote extensively in the last ten years to Asia, all over Europe and all over the us and this is without a doubt the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

Dirty. Rock hard beds. No wifi in rooms. BAD service.

And they lied to me about inquiring w agoda as to why they were charging us 25% more than the backpackers walking up as we were checking in.

This is my first trip advisor review. I don't usually complain about food or services- I can put up with a lot as long as I sense some basic goodwill somewhere. The Diamond Cave Resort however, is a lousy hotel. Unclean, overpriced, bug ridden (ants, mosquitos, and a cockroach as big as my finger that we trapped under a glass and named Leroy), smelly- cigarettes and sewage, and staffed by people who do not belong in the service industry. Not a people person? fine, neither am I, that's why I don't run a hotel. But you do. Why should I pay for your surly and unhelpful attitude?

Leroy the cockroach also became a permanent pet as the rooms are not cleaned every day. Not until the end of our 3 day stay did we learn that you must ask for the room to be cleaned and drop off the (only) room key in the lobby for who knows how long. When I informed the woman at the front desk, Nok, about our gripes she had little to say besides a clearly insincere "oh, sorry." She hardly raised an eyebrow, and definitely not a finger to remedy anything.

Diamond Cave Resort clearly takes advantage of their prime location and run the loosest definition of a hotel. I should have slept on the beach. Do Not Stay Here.

The room was tired, dated, dirty and is by far the worst value for money we have ever experienced in Thailand! The only upside to this place was the swimming pool and breakfast, however at THB 1500, it was ridiculously overpriced.

This resort is not even average for that money. We payed 1500. The room was barely aceptable so that we were lucky that we have booked only one night. It is noisy and blood has been on the bed sheets. Personal was not really friendly and the breakfast was accompanied by a lot of cats. We would recommend not to stay there. The way better princess resort is just a five minute walk away. Same price, way better standard.

Dark, dirty and old room. Beds looked disgusting. Stay cut short because of this place and no where else to stay. Monkeys go through this resort which is quite cool. Nothing else to say about this place. I would only pay 1000 baht max per night.

I can just tell everyone not to go to this resort/hotel...

When we arrived the staff members were already unfriendly and didn't speak good English. We first took a look at the A/C room and then decided that we would like to see the cheaper room with fan as well. The guy looked so annoyed when we said we would like to see the other room, thats a NO GO! In tourism and is hospitality you have to be friendly and polite...

We took the A/C room for 1500 Baht (around 35€) and after a nap we saw many bed bugs on the bed and when we squeezed them there were big blood spots. On the linen you could see that there were already blood spots from earlier. So it wasn't the first time that they have this problem.

When we went to the reception we said that we would like to change the room and if they pay for the laundry. We got an other room and he said "change room, here is key, do everything in laundry, no paying" After asking 3 times if they pay for the laundry it was clear for me that it menas we don't need to pay but we got to know later that he meant THEY are not paying.

So we washed ALL our clothes, thats around 500Baht plus the 1500 Baht for the room (dirty bathroom!).

Every single staff member was unfriendly and we didn't feel welcomed at all.

We should have check the Trip Advisor reviews before...

We have just stayed at diamond cave resort in the bungalows next to the pool. We paid 800thb per night (probably should have bartered more as it's low season) but we were happy with what we got.

The bedroom of the bungalow had a really good fan and air con, so we were comfortable. It was quiet as the resort is set back from the main strip of East Beach. There was also satellite TV with some English language channels.

Pros
- comfy, clean bed
- cool
- nice balcony next to the pool
- wifi in the restaurant area and by the pool
- gorgeous and pristine pool area
- good laundry service

Cons
- bathroom a bit scruffy - the tiles were stained from where the water didn't drain properly. There was a constant puddle by the toilet where it didn't drain away.
- breakfast not the greatest. Nice omelette but the noodles and potatoes were cold and stale tasting and there we're ants in the fruit. My husband said the bread wasn't great either (although Thailand isn't exactly well know for it's bread!!)

All in all I would recommend this place but perhaps try and barter them down from 800thb for the aircon bungalow or 600thb for the fan bungalows further back. Especially in low season.
