“Worst Place in Thailand”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014

I can't write a worse review of this place. I can see how it could be okay for some as there is potential here but it didn't work out that way for us. My Fiance and I spent a lot of money for this resort as it was meant to be our "romantic getaway" part of the trip. Prior to arriving the resort my Fiance had emailed and asked the best way to get there. We were told the times and locations to catch the free long tail boats. When we arrived at the pier 45 minutes early we waited for the boat. We waited an hour and a half and the boat never came. Finally we asked a local to borrow their phone to call the resort. They told us the time we had was wrong and the boats left and also informed us that we would have to pay the amount baht for a long tail boat and they would not cover the cost. Then they hung up on us. We sat on the pier as it was getting to low tide and were told to wait until the tide came in at 10pm to get a ride there. We convinced someone to take us for 600baht. When we arrived at the resort I asked to speak to the manager who was the rudest person I encountered in Thailand. We showed him the email from his staff about the times and how they were wrong and should reimburse us for the boat and he told me they would not. That clearly it was somehow our fault. He then told me that we were "here now so whatever". Having no concern for that fact that 1) We are not from here and we couldn't find a way to get a hold of them, 2) the stress of finally getting ahold of them and being hung up on and 3) paying for a boat and getting in far later than we should have because of their wrong doing. When I made it clear that he wouldn't get my money unless I was reimbursed he told me he had to call someone to check if we were even at the pier and make sure we weren't lying. We were so humiliated. Standing there waiting to get a room and being treated like this was awful. The manager made a call and then went to another couple who was also having a problem and didn't speak to us again. A woman from the desk just came to us and told us to pay the full amount to check in. We refused and said we would again not pay for this boat. So we ended up paying the amount minus the boat. After all that!!

Finally we were being taken to our room when the manager last minute called and the worker had to change the room key. Instead of the deluxe bungalow we were expecting we were taken to the last bungalow which had a door that didn't close properly or lock had no welcome fruit like advertised, had fire ants roaming freely, and was so far that wifi didn't reach. This room was not meant for someone that night and had not been prepared at all. It was obvious that our room was moved here for a reason. We tried to calm down, killed all the fire ants we could and get something to eat. The food at the restaurant was okay but way overpriced. We called down to the front desk to come get our plates but no one came. We tried to wrap it in plastic bags to keep from the fire ants.

The next day the ants were well aware of the food so we called down for some bug spray. Again no one came and we had to go down and get the spray and take care of it ourselves. I am not sure if this was bad service or misunderstand based on language but when we went to the desk we were able to get the right help. So that is okay for us.

Needless to say we really wanted to enjoy our time here and since it is a Bungalow in the Jungle we expect some insects some noise and even some inconveniences. But we found ourselves spending more time trying to be away from this resort than in it because we were so mistreated by management.

There are a few perks about this place, the pool is beautiful, the views are great and the rooms I am sure if prepared for guests are lovely. But we will never go back here based soley on the manager who couldn't wait to show us how much of a bad mood he was in that night. For the price we paid for this room we could have stayed at one of the other nicer resorts. And when we go back we for sure 100% won't be looking here!!!

Room Tip: Get a room close to reception facing ocean.

I booked to stay here for 6 nights but only spent 2 due to the fact that there was construction work (drilling) going on next to the bungalow which continued throughout the day even when we were sitting on balcony looking at the workers. It's also very noisy from the longtail boats from about 6am until midnight. I e-mailed the resort prior to arriving asking for a quiet bungalow but they never replied to warn about the longtail noise. Staff at reception and manager were both pretty uninterested and unhelpful. Given the price that's just unacceptable.
On a positive note, the bungalows themselves are lovely and the location is great. The restaurant staff were very friendly for breakfast. The breakfast itself was mediocre.

I like this place. Very cool to relax here if you have deep sleep. We checked in earlier then we had to (around 11 am), but the room was not very clean
Pluses:
Great sea view (the best one)
Positive people on reception
Very nice bungalows
Good restaurant and well breakfasts
Nice territory and cool swimming pool
Far from people crowds - very calm place comparing with others (we wanted to live in calm place)

Minuses:
Very noizy because of a lot of longtail boats started from 6 am till 11-12 pm. No soundproofing at all
Far from good beaches (20 minutes by foot). Shuttle boat do not help as schedule is not exact.

Room Tip: Choose the sea view rooms

We spent 4 nights at this resort during christmas. It is a nice calm resort with nice bungalows. It's situated on the hills in the forest close to all the wild life. The pool area was nice and the lunches to. The breakfast was ok but not more than that, it does it's job but not being great. That lowers the rating from my experience. Also be aware that you need some insect spray against the mosquito. But that was sold at the resort at a low price.

The location is really great. We had a beautiful view of the bay with all the tail boats passing by. If you want to experience more restaurants and the beaches it not far to walk to the rest of Railay. You can take a free tale boat that the hotel provides but we ended up walking every time since it was so close.

The room was nice and clean. Some small trace after wildlife (they ate at our bananas in the fruit basket) but that's what you can expect when you visit a resort in the middle of nature. The bathroom was really nice with a good spacious shower and bath.

This resort offered exactly what we wanted, calm and nice place to relax but also close to other restaurants and bars when in the mood for that. A tip is the "last bar" which is the closest to railay great view. They have live music and fire shows to entertain you!

Very peaceful and quiet place from the more tourist filled spots of Railay Bay. The rooms are these lovely wooden huts with a fantastically comfortable king-size bed, large balcony and amazing views . You may find you could be sharing with a gecko or two which didn't bother us, all part of the experience of being 'in the jungle', but definitely make sure the mosquito nets are closed properly before you sleep! I have seen the longtail boats mentioned as noise factor but they didn't bother us the two nights we stayed. The early morning 'jungle sounds' were great to wake up to.

The location is a good 15 minute walk and a slight hike, particularly if you have a room at the top like us! but ok if you are of average fitness though I would check with them first if you are unsure. Also there is a boat service from Railay East to the resort so ask about this first too.

Staff were fantastic and their service, personal and spot on. Particular thanks to Nikki in the restaurant and Wa and colleagues at reception for their chat and answering all our questions, and for their genuine and warm concern as my friend was unwell during our stay.

The resort of a nice bit of luxury (a bit pricey but worth it) and we would gladly stay there again to get away from it all. Probably more aimed at the couples/honeymooners market but groups of friends, solos and families like us would equally enjoy it.

Room Tip: Ask the hotel where your room is if you want to avoid walking right to the top and also ask about th...

We have been at other resorts in thailand, in the same trip, and where generally happy with most of them. Our experience here was so bad, i don't even know where to begin.
The place is very noisy because of the longtail boats that roam right in front of it, at all times. It feels like sleeping in front of a highway.
The location is terrible: there is a shuttle (boat) but if you just want to get to railay west (the lively part of the island) you will have to walk a smelly, never-ending strip full of garbage just to get to railay east, which isn't pretty, then cross over to railay west trough another smelly alley. If you must stay in railay beach, do yourself a favor and stay in one of the resorts in railay west. (Thailand is full of amazing places but we found out, sadly, that railay beach isn't one of them).
Service: in general, the staff was rude, especially at the restaurant, with a few exceptions. What baffled me is that literally nobody who works there speaks english, with the exception of the manager, whom I only saw one time. I mean nobody. Not even at the reception desk.
To get to the rooms/bungalows, you must be prepared to CLIMB, unless you are in one of the few rooms closer to the reception area.
The rooms are actually very nice inside, but they are not well built. Lots of mosquitos all the time, and on the first night, a COCKROACH fell from the bathroom's roof right on my HEAD. On the second night, there were two cockroaches roaming freely in the bathroom, and one in the bedroom. When I asked the hotel to do something about it, they send someone to unclog the toilet (huh?). When I realized they didnt understand what I was saying, I showed them a picture of a cockroach, and with a few hand gestures, they seemed to understand what the problem was. They came 20 minutes later with .. an anti-bug repellent spray. We checked out the next day.
By the way, this "resort" isn't even listed in tripadvisor's list of "hotels in railay beach". It is listed under "ranches in krabi town", which makes no sense. They either don't know how (which would'nt surprise me) or they did it on purpose to avoid potential customers from reading the bad reviews. Why some people have written good reviews about this place is beyond me. I can say without any hesitation that I am never ever coming back.

Room Tip: Book somewhere else. Avoid railay beach if you can. If you must book a room here, try to get the one...

This is a lovely resort if you are looking for some peace and quiet in a remote location as the resort is located at the far end of Railay East, away from restaurants and beaches. There is a shuttle boat available 3 times a day, otherwise you need to walk at least 15 minutes to get to the livelier part of Railay. However, it does have a very unique natural and peaceful atmosphere and the bungalows are superb. Breakfast was poor and staff not very helpful (although nice, they didn't have a clue what was happening.) The only problem we had was that we booked for 3 nights and were told that the 3rd night the hotel had overbooked, so they transferred us to another resort- Sea Sand Resort at Railay West, which was fine by us as it is more centrally located. However, it lacks the special atmosphere of Great View Resort.
