“Wonderful stay with lovely people and great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

We had a wonderful time in this guest house in Signaghi. David's mother acts as a mother to everyone who come in her front door. As soon as we arrived we were met with calls (in Russian) of "dear guest, dear guest, please come downstairs and have something to eat." We were met with a wonderful spread of hearty delicious food and delightful company. This experience was repeated with consistency (in both the quality and the quantity of the food, as well as the warmth of the hospitality) each evening.

Mrs. Zandarashvili describes the Guesthouse as her favorite child and it shows. They have done a lot of work to build their business into one of the best options in town.

Guests should be aware that the Zandarashvilis offer two different kinds of accommodations. They have private rooms on the main floor which are modern and spacious, some of which have a private bath. They also have dorm-style accommodations upstairs. I think this is older construction, which was part of the original house. The plumbing was a bit unreliable while we were there (a leaky shower led to a bit of water on the bathroom floor), but everything was otherwise clean and comfortable and certainly very sanitary.

I strongly recommend this place and hope to have the chance to return some day.

Nice house, with good view, clean rooms, and, more important, a cozy dining room with fireplace, destination port of countless delicious traditional dishes at both dinner and breakfast. It's a pleasure to be fed and hosted by a real Georgian mum. Strongly recommended.

We stayed at David's hotel for two days, we opted for a shared bathroom. so for 20 GEL only! we got a huge bedroom with a private balcony! The entire family are involved in running the hotel, they were all very accommodating and helpful. and on top of this all, the location was suburb!

We came to the Zandarashvili guesthouse after reading the raving Lonely Planet review with expectations to find a warm family hospitality. Instead, we encountered aggressive behavior from people who apparently just get too many guests.

Upon arrival, the father tried to sell us the place by saying that they are the "only guesthouse with hot water" as there is some sort of gas shortage in town and seemed very upset at us when we asked if the price includes breakfast. Of course, after all the promises, there were no hot water in the evening nor in the next morning.

Room - There are no blinds in the room so you wake up at 6am with sunrise, and when people walk on the upper floor you can hear the ceiling squeaking and shaking.

When we tried to book their short vineyards tour the son refused to write us the names of the vineyards that we would visit and also refused to change any of them to the ones we wanted to visit. When we insisted, he just went away and left us there for a good 15 minutes before returning.

In the end, when we decided that we had enough and that we are leaving after one night, the son stopped us in the middle of the town streets and started interrogating us on where are we staying and where are we going. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: The "red room" is the biggest one and has a balcony, but bring your blindfold with you as...

Staying in David Zandarashvili's Guesthouse was a great experience. Clean bathroom, astonishing view from the balcony and very helpful family made this stay real pleasure. David was very helpful in advising what to see and where to go and even drove us to the minibus station. Great meals with all the guest was a great opportunity to meet your fellow travellers.

After a long time on the road, it was a relief to feel at home at the Zandarashvili's guesthouse. We stayed in one of the new rooms with private bathroom (60-80 GEL), but you could opt for a shared bathroom room downstairs (40 GEL).

The family made us feel at home and were incredibly helpful. They offered a taxi service to Davit Gareja (cheaper than town taxis) and found other travellers to share the cost. You won't go hungry or thirsty. The hosts also ensure everyone socializes. It had a good mix of travellers, from families to university students.

The new double rooms are excellent - reliable hot water, spacious and some have views/balconies. The guesthouse also has a shared computer with internet (no wifi)

Room Tip: The new top-floor rooms are worth the extra cost

David and his family are extremely welcoming and helpful. They told us about the area, offered to arrange tours and gave us recommendations of what to do and how to do it! The house is in a great location with beautiful views over Signagi. The rooms are clean and well equipped if not a little hot with no AC. At an extra cost, David's mother will prepare two huge and delicious meals but there are other options in town also.
The house was quite busy and could get a little noisy but this is only because it is a popular spot. Some of the rooms have private balconies with great views for a bit more privacy. This was a good value room for a brief stay in Signagi.
