“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2011

This hotel is on the main N330, right at the entrance to this small, working wine town. There is a wine museum but not much else to see (it is a working town!) However it is a convenient stop-over for Belchite (the Civil War site), Calatayud and Zaragoza. Fuendetodos (Goya's birthplace) is very near.
The hotel is modern with large, comfortable rooms overlooking its own vineyard. There is ample free parking. The food was first class and terrific value. The evening meal (not before 8:30 pm) is a menu 'degustacion', but there is enough choice to satisfy anyone. It was beautifully prepared and presented. The salad was the finest I have ever eaten! There was an excellent choice of the hotel's own wines either by the bottle or 'copa'. The meal was the equal of the finest meal we had on this tour and half the price. The hotel is run by a very charming and helpful young woman with a really 'cool' taste in unobtrusive background jazz tapes. It should not be missed if the opportunity arises.
There is not much in the town, we wanted to visit Belchite (20 minutes away). It was the town Franco would not allow to be rebuilt after its devastation in the Civil War. Wally Tapsell of the British Battalion fell here. Worth a visit.

We selected the Hotel del Vino for the stop-over on our 750-mile drive from Almeria to Santander. Hotel options close to the A23 road between Valencia and Zaragoza seem limited to either Cariñena or Teruel and we thought it better to drive the extra 120km to Cariñena to allow plenty of time to check in for the ferry back to Portsmouth. We think we made the right choice; we left the Hotel del Vino at 8.30 next morning and arrived in Santander at 2.00 p.m., an hour and a half before boarding, but, having encountered unexpected fog and snow as well as the traffic of Bilbao, we were glad we didn't have the extra distance from Teruel to contend with as well.
So, if you're going North towards Santander from the Costas, I would definitely recommend its location (which, by the way, is exactly as per the map on the hotel web site, and NOT where a Google map search puts it, which is North of Cariñena, near Longares).
The building is modern, and looks more warehouse than hotel, but from the moment you walk into reception you know you've made a good choice for that well earned rest. The lobby is vast and the decor crisp, clean and sharp. The reception manager on our visit was John, from Romania, and we really can't praise him highly enough. He was extremely welcoming, genuinely friendly and helpful, not just with the room but when serving drinks at the bar, waiting at tables or helping choose wines from the shop. He is a gem.
The room was massive, as was the bed and the bathroom. Again, very modern, very clean and with gadgets including a massage chair and jacuzzi bath. Internet was free (with a cable from reception).
The hotel is attached to a bodega, so there are plenty of reasonable wines to choose from at the bar and with dinner. Dinner itself was superb; an amuse bouche, delicious chicken liver paté, salad with local ham, camembert crepes and raspberry vinaigrette, pork solomillo and a lovely selection of deserts. I thought it was the best dinner in our month in Spain; it was also the least expensive.
After dinner, the thing we needed most, an excellent night's sleep. The bed was superbly comfortable, the rooms quiet and the black-out curtains effective. We woke in the morning feeling completely rested and ready for the final 450 kms of our drive.
We were influenced in choosing the Hotel del Vino by other Trip Advisor reviews, as well as its location. I can only echo those other reviewers' comments. This is an excellent place to rest on a long journey and the rooms and the dinners are excellent value for money. If you have the time to spare, you can have a tour of the winery, and you even get a complimentary bottle of Chardonnay at check-out.

My partner and I booked this hotel for a one night stay on a roadtrip from Spain back to the UK. This hotel was a pleasant surprise. Being November, it was very quiet but we were welcomed by Olivier and treated to complimentary wine tasting. The hotel has 42 rooms with a very modern feel and right next door to the owners bodega. The location is a little out of the way but accessible to Zaragossa within 30mins by car, and if you're interested in wine making/tasting it's a great find. Our stay was made particularly special by the welcome and service Olivier provided. He is a great asset to the hotel.

This is a nice, modern new hotel. The room was spacious with views out over the vineyards.
The staff member who checked us in turned out to be the only one working and gave us an excellent wine tasting and our dinner! His service was outstanding.
This was an excellent place to stop for the night to break up our drive and to enjoy good food, and great wine and service.

This is not just a hotel: it is also a bodega. Externally it appears not to have any windows: they are all on the side farthest from the road, overlooking the vineyards. The entrance hall is enormous, and contains the bodega display area, a large reception desk, a comfortable lounge area, the bar and a pleasant dining area. All is very clean and modern, and the various areas are discretely separated by large movable partitions. Free wifi and a guest computer are available close to reception. The hotel has been open two years, but everything appears like new. It seemed as if there is a staff of 3 working as a fast-acting team covering reception, bar and restaurant, and sharing all responsibilities.

They have only just started to offer evening meals. The €15 menu was limited, but pleasing, and included bread, water, a complimentary starter and a glass of chardonnay. The first course consisted of a large green salad incorporating samples of ham, cheese and various other local products. There was a choice of main course: steak or duck breast. The duck was particularly delicious. There was a choice of postre: cheesecake or vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was the best we have ever tasted. Other wine from the bodega was offered by the glass or by the bottle at very reasonable prices.

The bedroom was large, clean and simply fitted in a modern style. The bed was comfortable with good quality linen. A desk with computer networking facility was provided, as well as a safe, a spacious wardrobe, and a luxurious armchair with footrest. The LCD TV was a bit on the small side, but displayed all the Spanish digital channels, except surprisingly TVE1, TVE2 and TVE24. English sound tracks could be selected where available. There was a digitally controlled airconditioning system which worked well and was easy to use.

The bathroom was also large with exceptional quality tiling, and was simply fitted in a modern style. It incorporated double hand basins, large shower cubicle, toilet and bidet. There were two little problems. The architect who designed the room put the exit from the shower cubicle too close to the hand basins. If either of the basins was in use it was almost impossible to get out of the shower. The cause of this cramped layout was almost certainly the bathroom door being hinged on the wrong side. The other problem concerned the shower nozzle wall bracket. I would like to describe it as having brewers droop. But this is a bodega, not a pub, so one could say it was suffering from vino collapso.

The total bill for dinner, wine, bed and breakfast for 2 came to €101. Very good value! We will return! It is about 4 hours drive from Santander ferry port, and easy to find.
