Description: Whether you're in Ceres for the cherries at Klondyke, the snow on Matroosberg or in the Koue Bokkeveld, the big-sky beauty of the Tankwa Karoo National Park and the Cederberg or a thrill-seeking day with Ceres Zipslide Adventures, make sure you stop over at Die Tolhuis Restaurant, without doubt the coziest restaurant with the best mountain views in the Ceres area. And if, like welcoming owners Reint and & Karien Grobler, you swear by the wise words of Mahatma Ghandi, "there is more to life than increasing its speed," you can prepare yourself for a mouthwatering 'kuier' that will keep you coming back for more.

“Great stop off for lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

A delightful little Bistro, about 5 km from Ceres at Michells Pass. An oasis for travellers needing a break for an hour or so. A few tables outside in the shade. A large fireplace inside for cold days.

Simple home made fare - a few salads, burgers and local sausage dishes. Try their home made lemonade. Attentive service, and above all, very good value.

“Just lovely!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

A very small bistro, but just lovely, about 5 tables inside and 5 in the garden.
I love this typical South African vintage style: red/white checked table linnen, home made lemonade and a small menu. But everything fresh and prepared with love. As you can see and taste. It is just sweet!!!

“Wonderful food, pleasant environment and good people too.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

We were travelling out of Ceres heading west over the Michells pass when we found this little gem on the right hand side of the road. Just prior to this we had found an abandoned dog in one of the viewing spots on the pass so we were keen to get a coffee and some help in assisting the dog.

I had tea and Roosterkoek (A crusty homemade bread) which they serve with butter and either grated cheese or jam. It was a wonderful light meal.

So what about the dog you say? Oh yes, the manager promptly went off in her car to go and collect the dog for transport to the SPCA. as it happened the little chap was very scared of humans so we could not catch him and in the end she arranged for the SPCA to come out and assist us. Apparently she helps animals like this all the time according to the waitress.

My recommendations are that.if driving over Michells pass you should visit this pretty and comfortable place because you will get a fine home cooked meal and you will meet some really nice people to boot.......

“Home made”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

We took a drive out to Ceres. What pleasure to stop at a place to eat, a fantastic home made menu. The breads and jam,FANTASTIC! it is a little nook of a place on a bend under large trees. It is so peaceful and quiet your whole being feels relax. The hospitality of the staff make a revisit definite.
Love the place.
