Visited Maitencillo with the intention of dining again at a favourite, Unicornio Azul. But had read so much about Puntamai ( which in fact is next door ) and how it was the best in town, that we decided to give it a try. There is no doubt that it is VERY popular as both levels and the terraces were fully occupied at 3pm on Saturday in mid-winter. Very spacious and accomodating of noisy children. Has a privileged location with a great view of the ocean. Service was prompt with warm homemade bread and pebre immediately available. The menu is very extensive with many seafood and fish dishes as expected. For appetizer we decided on Ostiones Parmesan to share. These arrived on a sizzling plate for our enjoyment. Unfortunately they were rather bland in taste and certainly were a disappointing start. For main dish I ordered the Pastel de Centolla. Once again I was disappointed as it was too heavy and gluey rather than light and flavorful. Usually I finish a plate entirely but this time it was not sufficiently appealing. My wife though had the Reineta with creamed spinach. Both were delicious. For a sweet option we chose the Kuchen de Manzana (Apple Pie). Very disappointing again. Dry and quite hard, even seemed that it may have been in a fridge for 3 days. Not a good option. I rate the place overall as average only because of my wife's dish and the friendly atmosphere, location and service but the other food choices were not even average.
