After a long tiring days drive we were greeted by an unnecessarily long wait at check-in: I will spare you the details but the hotel has some basic staff re-training to do (you know the kind of thing: don't answer the phone when checking people in; don't encourage long rambling conversations and when others are waiting in line; when you have an extra staff member available, use them). Once in, however, we were happy with the hotel which is situated by a road in attractive hilly forested land which looks great for walking. Our room was large, rather dark (small windows: bit like a mountain lodge), and comfortable without being intimate. The place is isolated so you need to eat there. They offer a reasonably good value 19.50Euro + VAT buffet including water (of course, it is a balneario) but not wine. The buffet was generous and included a friendly chef who cooked up your selection of fish/meat/vegetarian grill choices, and the choice of local wines was good and reasonably priced. There is a bar with friendly staff, overpriced beer, and noisy TV showing RAC105 (why not something a bit more classy to listen to?) where elderly (and presumably deaf) people relax playing cards and dominos (it is a balneario) and younger people (if there are any: it is a balneario) shoot pool or play darts. The building is new and attractive, and there is a heated swimming pool and opportunity for oily massages. The best news about this place however is the location which is so convenient for the triple monastery/convent trip of Poblet, Vallbona and Santes Creus. This triplet is one of the great highlights of Catalonia, is set in beautiful countryside, and should not be missed.
