“A little slice of heaven in the Elgin Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2009

My bridal party and I stayed at Rockhaven for four days in November whilst I got married in the Elgin Valley. We also held our reception in the farm barn and had our pre-dinner drinks on the lawns and in the boathouse next to the dam.
The smaller guest cottage, set amongst the apple and olive trees, was perfect accomodation for my sister and her two small children as they could easily walk up to the main house but were a litle further away from the dam.
Mike and Liz, the farm's owners, could not have been better or more welcoming hosts. The rooms are tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and filled with fresh flowers from the gardens. The views are superb, the food delicious and nothing is too much trouble. Both Mike and Liz are amazing cooks and my family are still talking about the delicious blueberry muffins which were served at breakfast and the thai chicken curry which we had for dinner the night before the wedding.
Liz and Mike are two of the most thoughtful, generous and kind-hearted people I have ever met. Rockhaven felt like a home away from home while we were there and they went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we could possibly need and that our wedding weekend was perfect.
My nephew and niece loved running around in the gardens, swimming in the dam and playing with the four very friendly dogs who live on the farm. My elderly grandfather was equally content to sit on the terrace enjoying the sunshine, watching the world go by and trying to spot the pair of fish eagles which visit the dam.
Rockhaven is a truly beautiful spot for those in need of a relaxing break or wanting a great place to host a special event. My new husband's one regret was that he had only been able to spend one night there. We are already making plans to go back to Rockhaven for a longer stay.

We stayed at Rockhaven for four nights in October while visiting the Elgin area looking at farms and tasting wines. The farm itself is beautiful, with rolling hills, lovely plantings, and orderly rows of apple and olive trees. The owner-hosts are a wonderful couple who moved here some years ago after successful careers in Johannesburg. They are both extremely gracious and charming hosts, and extremely talented in the kitchen. Breakfasts were made-to-order and included just-collected eggs from the farms flock of chickens. Dinners are available, too, and are a homey and delicious affair, often accompanied by excellent local wines.

The rooms are also very comfortable and very tastefully decorated, with en suite baths. I cannot imagine a better place for a romantic weekend of as a base to experience the up and coming wines of the Elgin valley.
