“Amazing, relaxing time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

Really friendly people, lovely setting and fantastic food! The staff go out of their way to help you to spend your time in the best way for you and the resort uses local sources for ingredients, staff and attractions. Being taught how to cook cretan food was probably the highlight!

Where to start....everything about our stay was amazing! Myself and my boyfriend both loved it!

We got a bit lost on the way to Eleonas and ended up going on a route which was much more difficult than it would have been if we had done it right, so I was a bit stressed upon arrival. That stress instantly dissipated because of all the luscious greenery and instant friendly greeting! This set the tone for our whole trip. The staff here are second to none, and that is everyone! We were given advice and suggested itinerary for our 7 day stay which was so helpful and we used it to plan all our days. The owner came around every evening at dinner to see how each guest had found their day, it was incredibly personal and sincere.

The days out that we did ranged from hiking to gorges and monasteries, to horse riding and finding beautiful beaches. I would definitely recommend hiring a car for the trip, it gives you so much freedom and despite a lot of other reviews, the roads were quite easy with stunning views (it might have helped its September)!

We ate at the taverna every night . My boyfriend did check out some other restaurants in the area but we decided that we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere here so much that actually we would rather stay there! Again the staff were brilliant and really made an effort to get to know us. The food was delicious, it had a real rustic home cooked feel but was utterly yum! We tried the house special each night and were not disappointed once. I would thoroughly recommend it, and in particular the lamb and the sea food!

We had one of the stone cottages and it was exactly how the pictures advertise them, which was a really pleasant surprise! We had beautiful views from a beautiful room. We didn't have a DVD player as we were told, this was offered to be fixed instantly but we were not too fussed about that. The wifi worked, the cottage was pristine and the bathroom was lovely. We did seem to have a lot of ants which got in the sugar, but that aside, I really was impressed.

The pool was again as the pictures displayed. It was lovely to lounge there and soak in the surrounding trees, flowers and mountains.

I really loved my week here and we will hopefully go back again. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good food, good views and good people. I didn't want to leave!

This is a pleasant lodge with lovely mountain views of the island.
The lodge is well maintained and geared towards families with small children.
From the posted reviews the lodge seems to have a very loyal following that repeatedly describes it as "paradise" - a term that is relative at best.

The approach to Eleonas can be a little disconcerting because of the unsightly water bottling plant with its concrete walls and fleet of delivery trucks. Obviously this cannot be helped, so don't let this put you off.

The reception area could also do with an update, as this is where first impressions are made.

For guests on half-board, note that you have a choice of 2 main courses for dinner (one being a vegetarian meal). In the event that Spaghetti bolognese is not your idea of Cretan cuisine, you may unwittingly discover the joys of vegetarianism. Breakfast is acceptable.

Our bathtub leaked water quite badly, which was apparently a known issue as we were provided with extra floor-mats at check-in, and the housekeeper repeatedly left us extra floor-mats to catch the leaking water.

If you opt for a more secluded cottage, be prepared for a mini-hike with lots and lots of stairs but worth the climb.

In summary, this is a nice place with friendly staff and decent food. But the use of "paradise" and "awesome" as adjectives, might be a little bit of a stretch..

Room Tip: Rent a decent car..

Perfect, perfect, perfect. We were warmly welcomed, well looked after, the cottage was a very high standard, the food was delicious, the raki was ever-flowing, the location was peaceful and very beautiful, our 15 month-old daughter loved it thanks to the amazing play areas and the baby-friendly people, we dipped in the pool, walked in the local and beautiful landscape, and drove to lovely (and not busy) beaches nearby. Perfect.

Our first time in the mountains of Crete - the views were spectacular. Eleonas Cottages were lovely, the food amazing and all the staff so friendly and welcoming. We'll definitely be coming back and doing some more hiking when it's cooler.

If I should use two words to describe Eleonas I would definitely say Generous and Tasteful.
If I can use three words I would add Professional.
It took us a moment in Eleonas to know that we will have the greatest vacation. We have reserved a cottage with two bedrooms for our family of 4 (couple + 2 kids ages 8 and 10) a long time in advance.
We had great expectations after reading the reviews in TripAdvisor. But it turned out to be much beyond our expectations.
First of all the location: while this is our 3rd time in Crete, this time we wanted to feel real Crete and avoid the touristic centers. Zaros is definitely real Crete. Located on the slopes of the mountains, an hour drive from Heraklion, it is far from the touristic beach resorts on the northern coast. After 30 minutes driving south of Heraklion you leave the main road to Mires and start your way at the mountains slopes crossing small villages, until you reach Zaros. A beautiful village with all the basic services you will need during your vacation. Eleonas is located around 1 km from the village, in a beautiful Mediterranean forest with an excellent view of the mountains and the whole area.
We had an early morning flight and we arrived early to the place. Manolis, the manager, immediately invited us to relax from the flight and the drive and have breakfast. The excellent generous breakfast is served in the beautiful garden restaurant. Sitting in the balcony overlooking the herbs garden, the vines and olive trees is a pleasure by itself. You will definitely want to come here at the evening again for dinner.
At Eleonas they pay attention to the smallest detail. Every inch of the property from gardens, the pool, the public areas and the rooms themselves are tastefully designed. The Mediterranean garden includes spices and aromatic herbs. The cottages, built on the mountain slopes, blends with the forest around and are beautifully designed and equipped with everything you need for your vacation. We stayed at a two bedroom cottage that was very spacious and provided privacy for the parents, a very convenient gallery for the kids, a kitchenette, a spacious and very convenient public area and a shiny bathroom.
We usually measure a hotel by the bathroom. The bathroom here was spacious and clean. No water pressure problems nor draining issues. Just a perfect shower. Of course they put there a supply of olive oil based soaps, shower gel and shampoo.
You will find in the room a complimentary bottle of red wine, fresh fruits, Raki, coffee and tea. There are books to let at the lobby as well as a DVD library. Generous hospitality. They will supply you all the extras with no charge. So you feel comfortable, and never feel that they are trying to suck your money whenever they can. Even the prices for a beer at the pool or an olive oil based products that they sell are not charged at a hotel price but in low prices compared even to the market at close by Mires.
The service is personal. As if you are a guest in their home. Since we arrived early and the room was not ready for us, after breakfast we stayed at the pool. Manolis who knew we were exhausted from the early flight came personally to the pool to call us as soon as the room was ready so we could freshen up and rest. During the week we have approached Manolis many times with questions about the area and regarding suggestions for trip routes. He was always helpful and gave us great ideas where to go to and where to stop on our way.
The staff at the restaurant always welcomed us with a greeting and a smile and you could see they really wanted us to have the best time.
Don’t miss dinner at the garden restaurant. The food is great. Every day they give a selection of 3 daily changing dishes and of course that you can also choose from the menu as well. The food is reasonably priced and is excellent. But the food is not the only thing here. It is the perfect way to end up your day. The atmosphere is great and so is the Raki with Honey and cinnamon.
When you are there don’t miss the southern beaches of Crete. An hour drive to the south, climbing up the southern mountains chain and then down to the most beautiful beaches of the south.
We had an unforgettable vacation in Crete. Thank you Manolis and the Eleonas team.

Room Tip: The two bedrooms cottages are just great. The cottages are built on a mountain slope. Our cottage w...

This was our second time and it was delightful again...superb food, great service and in just a week felt totally relaxed and comfortable. The place is like a home away from home. The atmosphere is country rustic but with lots of lovely touches like modern bathrooms, fluffy towels, air con when you need it, tasteful furnishings that blend in with the natural feel....Walking through the grounds, you can smell herbs, take in wonderful views of the mountains and have a swim in the pool, then relax in shade with a drink from the pool bar. The children enjoyed mountain bikes and the farm animals. The staff are attentive but not intrusive - this really is a special place. We will maybe try an autumn break next yr, do some hiking, see some of the ancient sites and explore more. Whether it's an active holiday or chilled break that's needed, Eleonas fits the bill! We'll be back.
