“Casa Ana - Total Get-away!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

Casa Ana is a truly excellent base from which to explore this remote region. Anne is a very accommodating host, who really thinks hard about what is going to make you feel completely at ease in her beautiful, rambling hilltop guest house. Our group was looking for a total getaway, with plenty of hill walking, complete tranquility and great food and wine; and that was what we got. There are not too many restaurants around, but great home cooking is available, with wine available on an "honesty" system. This place comes 100% recommended for the peace and quiet junkie.

My son and I were exploring the incredibly beautiful mountain villages of Spain's Alpujarra region between Granada and the coast. He wanted to find a place where he could organize a writers retreat for friends, and we found the perfect place at Casa Ana. Anne has beautifully restored the historic house, goat shed and other buildings at the edge of a picturesque village into a comfortable, tasteful rustic-chic inn and retreat center. She has updated the important things -- installing private bathrooms wtih rainforest showers, for instance -- while maintaining the original architecture.

The breakfasts were bountiful and delicious, and the professional kitchen would work well for groups.

Anne provided walking directions so we could hike the many trails connecting villages of the regions. The mountainside is terraced into fields and orchards, and occasionally we heard goat bells in the distance or the river tumbling in the deep gorge below. Views were varied and beautiful, of mountains and villages tucked between woodlands and fields.

Overall, a perfect stay. I highly recommend Casa Ana, and only wish we could have stayed longer!

A group of four couples was making it's third Easter Outing. Casa Ana was chosen as it is within two hours of our home base in Coin, Malaga. This years organisers met Anne earlier in the year and were very taken by the the setting, in a tiny village; the house, a reformed farmhouse; accomodation, which met our requirements; and lastly the very friendly welcome. We were free to "order" meals; self cater: or eat out. In the event we self catered on day one and ate out, on day two, at the only restaurant for miles with a very special atmosphere created by Carlos. We would and probably will go back.

Room Tip: All rooms were en suite and full of character.

My wife and I enjoyed a brief (2 night) stay in Casa Ana before spending 3 nights in Granada. The drive (in from Malaga airport/out to Granada) was scenic and we were met by Liz (Anna being in UK) who accompanied us for the final mile or so. Casa Ana is on the edge of a very small whitewashed village - typical of the Alpujarras region. Our room was small but perfectly adequate and comfortable and had a pleasant ensuite bathroom. It opened out onto one of the many terraces that looked out over the stunning scenery of the valley. The sound of the river far below was the only thing we heard at night and we slept like logs. Breakfasts were taken at 8:30 in the simple dining room with the other, very friendly, guests. Liz prepared lovely fruit dishes: there was also fresh bread and homemade jams. We didn't use the kitchen facilities but they looked fine.
I should point out that Ferreirola is at the end of a small winding road and so relatively isolated and quiet. The nearest shop was a 15 minute drive away and although there are 2 places to eat within 20 minutes walk you would need a car to access more choice. That said, it is ideally placed to explore the spectacular surrounding countryside on foot. The isolation was a bonus to us and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Ana.

We had a lovely stay in this very comfortable house. Kitchen wonderfully equipped and bedrooms clean and pleasant. Ana is a very helpful yet unobtrusive owner who is on the spot to give information if wanted. Lovely views from lots of little terraces. Plenty walks around and although the village is tiny there is a good country restaurant only a few minutes drive away or you may wish to have Ann provide a meal. We had a lovely time and will go back.

In April 2011 we, with three other couples, spent two delightful days walking, painting, reading in this charming house. Beautifully appointed in a simple style, there was everything needed for comfortable self-catering. A very well equipped kitchen/dining room with fresh bread awaiting our arrival and well thought out bedrooms and ensuite shower-rooms. Enjoy the tiny posies of flowers in each room
