I've been coming to Casita since 2008. Though travel reporting is my profession and I could choose among countless destinations and hotels, after trying 80 countries and in fact several resorts in the Mabini area, Casita is THE place I want to be.
Sure, there are places which are more upscale, with perfect bathrooms and icy air-conditioning, but I don't agree with whoever said the reef is not nice -- this is one of THE MOST beautiful house reefs I've ever seen. We swim up and down this reef nearly everyday when we are there and regularly see eels, reef sharks, turtles, and countless other fish! You can even see the whale shark going by at the right time of year and dolphins frolicking right in front. I am now in the Maldives and have just been in Seychelles and their BEST reefs over there don't compare with Casita's reef -- right a stone throw away from the front of the property! Also world-class dive sites within a half-hour boat ride. And Linda, the owner, will be super accommodating about arranging the dive trips, with a nice boat coming to pick you up at your door, a boat and dive master just for you for extremely reasonable prices.
Apart from this I love the architecture of the place, especially the 2 Balinese sea-view cottages, and the life within Casita's garden as well: from flying lizards to all sorts of birds. The food is delicious and varied and uses local cuisine and ingredients -- which cannot be said for the other places where we stayed in Mabini/Anilao, where they tried to copy international cuisine and ended up with sticky plates of pasta...
I also love the massages which are a GREAT ending to all the GREAT days we have at Casita.
I do think you have to "get into the vibe" of this place, the peace (no bothersome music imposed on you), the relaxed yet efficient way Linda has of dealing with things, the amazing reef in front and all around for snorkelling and diving, the great food and the massages.
Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but Casita for me is top of the pops and in fact I am now in Maldives thinking about getting back to it!
