“WOW! a crater within a crater....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

You can see the rim around Lake Taal. Impressive! Then arriving at the island to rent horses to take you up to the small lake, hot but worth it. I'm in my mid 40s now but was VERY athletic and continue to try to stay active. I could not imagine having to walk up to the top on my own. In the heat, I'm not sure I could have made it. I also felt terrible for my horse, having to work so hard to climb up that mountain. It's worth it to ride up, so you can enjoy the view once you get there. We walked down, which was not a problem....allowed us to view it all again at our own pace. A Must see if you are near....

There is not a fee to actual visit the top of the area, BUT horses cost money...and the boat ride over does as well...

“Better to look at than to actually go to”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Very beautiful and spectacular to look at from the surrounding hills (Tagaytay probably the best place to be).

“One of a kind”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

If you're going to be in Metro Manila for only a short while, then consider traveling to Tagaytay City to be able to see the Taal Lake and Volcano. It is a beautiful site to see. Plus the city also has good restaurants and other spots to visit, so it would be worth it to take that hour drive south of the Metro.

“1, 900 peso including lunch with trailadventours, all transport included, good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

We did this tour via Trailadventours, which is a hiking operator in Manila who do weekend tours. For the whole trip we paid 1,900 peso including a good lunch in a local restaurant.Great value for money and is a lovely place to visit. You can also catch a horse up for 300 each way, but best to walk. It's not a difficult hike but very hot, take water with you cause at the top, there charge 100 peso for a Buko juice.

Amazing views at the summit and defo worth a short day out from Manila. All transportation and boats are included in the price we paid.

“A popular place to visit!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

We went very early in the morning to try and beat the heat. Took a boat to get to the island where the volcano is- our boat driver played a mix of up-to-date music, which was pretty good. The boat was clean. We were pressed by people asking if we wanted to horseback ride to the top. We refused. We were 50 meters into the beginning of the hike from the main area, not even at the base when we decided to take horses. We took horses because 1) The pathway is littered with horse poop so instead of focusing on the hike or view, you're trying not to get poop on your shoes. 2) The pathway is very dusty and when people with horses come by all the dust gets in your face. 3) It was cheaper away from the main area (closer to the beginning of the base).

At the top, the view is incredible! There's a nice island in the middle of the lake and locals say you can swim in the lake. We didn't try that though.
