“Comfort near the Tikal ruins”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

With its view of the lake and its fine bar and restaurant, this hotel was a pleasant surprise after a long drive from Belize City. The staff was friendly and spoke some English, so ordering and checking in were fine. The room was large and old and had a nice balcony with the lake view. The bathroom was large and had a big tub, which helped when needing to wash off the mud from trekking through the ruins. The food was good but over-priced.

The hotel is very well located, between Flores and Tikal. My room was the on the top, so far away from lobby, although you can call every time you need a ride, some times is not conformable.

The rooms exteriors are very well decorated, the architecture melt with the forest. Interiors are not the best for me, as this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. I believe they need to invest in some restoration. The bathrooms are very clean, and this is priority. The TV set is still a old tv without Direct TV, or similar. Just 13 channels to surf around. My daughter who is just 3.7 years, cannot watch any tv show according her age. The furnitures are old.

We have probably the best view of the Peten Itza Lake, and we have A/C too. The food was very good.

The "beach area" is just the name. Is a great area filled with grass...no bar service close...it is not comfortable. it would be nice if they put they efforts to make this area in a real beach spot, they have a lot of space to make better things.

The people are very warm and make their effort to make you fell comfortable, this is a very good point. They even memorize the name of my daughter and helped us in everything we need.

The pool area is fine, and clean.

Room Tip: the last bungalow area, has the best views and away from the pool noisy area.

First impressions: dated and needs a comprehensive make over. Rooms are ok, bathrooms clean but old. Facilities limited though offer a bit of everything. The 'beach' is a bit of scrub grassland at the edge if the lake, with a small jetty. Could be nice but it isn't at all. You need to negotiate a lot of steps at this place too. My biggest moan though is the WIFI, I accept you may need to pay to use the service, but not per device. 2 people with an iPhone and iPad each would require 4 logins and so $40 per 24 hrs. A rip off and very poor.

A modern hotel with rooms, on three levels, set in several small blocks on a slope over looking the lake. Rooms were fine with a balcony. One major asset were a couple of deep freezes, set along the pathway which you have to walk along to get to the pool and resaurant, where there are bags of ice for guest's use. There is a golf buggy to take you and your luggage to the room also needed when checking out as the end rooms require a short walk and then a number of steps to get to the restaurant/reception area. Set in quite an isolated spot, there are a few restaurants some way off but no taxis near the hotel, but the food at the hotel was fine although the breakfast choice was a bit restricted for our tastes. You had the choice of eating inside of the restaurant or outside sitting under a massive high thatched roof looking over the lake. One nice thing about the hotel is that as well as providing you with a nice packed breakfast, for early leavers, there is also coffee and cakes to enjoy in reception while you wait for your pick-up. Although most of our time was spent at two Mayan sites and we didn't really have time to explore the hotel properly, we thought it to be a well run and pleasant hotel.

The hotels best feature is its location near Tikal National Park. The lake views and pool are great, but expect basic room services and long walks with many, many steps. This is not a hotel for those afraid of stairs. Food was fine and pretty good considering location. Staff were generally very helpful.

Room Tip: Avoid the higher number rooms series (especially 600's) they are at the far end of a long walk f...

Isolated location on Lake Peten Itza, about half an hour's drive from Tikal. The rooms are clean, but somewhat tired, with wonderful views of the lake. The grounds have beautiful tropical flora. The food is okay, nothing special. The staff are somewhat friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi is weak & unreliable. Do keep doors closed to keep out mosquitoes and scorpions.

This hotel is located on the Lake about 25 minutes from the Tikal monument site. The staff are very friendly and helpful, which is a bit surprising for a hotel that largely caters to groups. We asked to stay late on our last day and they let us stay until 3:30pm. This is certainly the best hotel to use if you are focused on seeing Tikal. We also went to a much less visited site, Uaxactun. The day we went with a guide we were the only people there. Very different than Tikal which iwas quite full of people.

Room Tip: There is a something of a walk as you get higher numbered rooms. 100's are closest. 600s the f...
