We travelled with Virgin although the departure was delayed for an hour it didn`t dampen our spirits. The only downside of the holiday was at Antigua airport.
St James, from the moment you arrive to the time you leave you feel that you are THE special guests, everyone very friendly and helpful, from the management to the gardeners.
The food was both very good and with a variety to suit all tastes, especially if you rotate the restaurants, Our favourite for breakfast and lunch was Rainbows being greeted by ever smiling Elaine, it seemed that she and her able staff could not do enough for you.
As previous reviews we found Cocos beach to be the best with the cooling breeze, the other was nice but too hot for us.
We stayed in one of the Reef suites which with it`s oversized bath and two basins in the bathroom and the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in, pure luxury. ( To us anyway).
We found it to be the perfect restful holiday, you even didn`t have to get up from your sun lounger to get a nice cooling drink, it was delivered to you hand.
Antigua itself we found it to be a very nice Island with very friendly people.

Ok, but not great. Expected better given its rating.

Just got back from a week at St James. We stayed in two Oceanview rooms in the Hisbiscus building facing Coco Beach with our 16 and 19 year old. Our biggest disappointment was the condition of the rooms. They were very basic, no frills at all, musty a/c smell, and the bedding was outright cheap and worn. We stayed at Galley Bay (same company) on the other side of the island a few years ago and have nothing but positive things to say. This property was no Galley Bay, not even close.

Pros: Coco Beach (yes, we liked the breezy one better than the bay beach), property location, grounds, scuba center, pools, plenty of chairs by the beaches and pools and the Jacaranda lounge

Cons: Our rooms--the kind that you want to keep your shoes on, and the bedding piled in the corner. Lots of little issues with the rooms: dripping faucets, dripping a/c in the rrom, frig with busted leg, sliding glass door to balcony that did not like to slide, musty smell always, a/c that never went off but never really cooled down the room. The food was ok -- not great. Most was very plain. We were on the all-inclusive like most folks. If you had to actually pay the prices on the menu it would be downright ridiculous. For example a dinner for the four of us would run around $400-500 according to the menu for average food. Overall the staff just seemed to tolerate guests. Not rude, but certainly not sincere nor attentive. Yes, there were a few that seemed to be relatively well trained and sincere but that was the minority. The towel policy is ridiculous -- you get these towel cards that you must use to get beach towels at locations usually not convenient to where you need them. It is up to you to return the towels and claim your cards else pay for your towels at the end of each day. And these are at best, ok towels. Nothing worth taking as a souvenier.

We just thought it would be better than its 4 or 5 star rating would suggest. We plan to return to Antigua in the future just not to this property.

St. James Club is absolutey the most breath taking resort! From the scenery to the staff, everything was perfect. Our stay consisted of four nights and we wished we could have stayed longer. I definetly recommend this resort to everyone. They had activites such as tennis, water sports, a kids room, a billard/weight room and beach volleyball. They even had a nightlife section where you could sing karaoke or dance. If there were any questions the staff up front would always have an answer and were very helpful! We toured off the resort and the staff at St. James would call and help us with taxi service and everything! The food was fabulous! There were four restaurants to choose from on the resort that helped to break up from eating at only one place. My favorite restaurant was the Dockside. The view from there was so relaxing! I hope to go back oneday!

just came back from St. James resort in antigua. stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with my teenage kids. absolutely loved it. The place was well cared for and extremely clean... there was always somebody sweeping or painting or cleaning. the staff was welcoming and resourceful.everyone is soooo friendly, polite and very accomodating.

the kids had sooo much to do with snorkeling, kayaking, hobie boats and laying on the beach. the pools were also very clean and beautiful.
I was looking forward to steel drum music, but only found it on Wednesday night after being there for 4 days. night time entertainment is poor after 900pm. almost everything shuts down except a few of the bars. we were so tired from busy days that it did not bother us but if your looking for that, you wont find it.

we sailed on a catamaran boat to green island for snorkeling, which was at the resort. the crew were great and served a variety of snacks and hot food on board. everywhere you look was rum punch. a caribbean treat.

make sure you try the antigua submarine . you need to have a taxi take you, but it is well worth it. the sub dives down to 70 feet at one of the coral reefs and the crew narrates the fish , stingrays and jelly fish that you see on the coral reef. it was up close and beautiful.,..all in an airconditioned submarine. the kids loved it...

you won't go wrong staying there, and I for one am looking forward to going back.

here is my quick review, overall very nice, staff is pleasnt and accomodating, grounds are nice.Stayed in a hotel room 1 night which was just ok,but great view of the ocean, then moved to a 2 bdr villa which was large, clean and also with a great view with 2 patios, one upstairs and one downstairs.4 pools which were just ok since we have a 4 year old mainly stayed at the kids pool, only complaint there were no bathrooms,no towels and no drinks anywhere close and this was inconvenient, they need more towel huts.the beaches are nice, the atlantic side is too windy, the bay side is beautiful and we used the complimentary boats there. The kids club was great. The food was just ok,didnt do the all inclusive for the first 4 nights, went to the hideout right outside the hotel and had 2 terrific meals, did the all inclusive for 3 nights and were a little disappointed however it was convenient.went to nelsons dockyard, complete waste of time, again overall a nice relaxing vacation i would return, maybe in high season so more things would be open
