“Simply the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

St. James's Club is excellent and the best resort of its kind in our wide experience of hotels in the Caribbean and around the world. The staff are all so eager to make their guests feel welcome that we rate this hotel as "the hospitality capital of the world". We stayed in the beach-front rooms on two occasions (2011 and 2012) and in a villa on our latest visit two weeks ago. In each case the accommodation was very comfortable with great ocean views and the beaches were uncrowded with lots of chaise-longues and palapas. A golf cart service, provided by a friendly guy named Alfred, brings drinks to guests on the beach or you can get drinks at the conveniently located bars near the beaches and pools. There are half-a-dozen swimming pools on the hotel site with again lots of places to lie in the sun or shade. The extensive gardens with exotic flowering plants make St. James's Club a photographer's delight, offering people who like strolling an interesting landscape.

The restaurants are first-class. There is a wide choice of foods to suit all tastes and the service is terrific. We particularly enjoyed the crab-meat and smoked salmon roulade, the soups, the pastas, and the English -style puddings with custard (a rare treat for Canadians like us). The Brie cheese was equal to any we have sampled in France.

Standards are obviously very important to the owner Rob Barrett and the management of St.James's Club. The Duty Manager Jeff LaPointe pops up all around the site, monitoring performance, and asking guests if there is anything he can do to improve things. But in fact we could not have been more satisfied. We will be back next year without a doubt.

We needed time away from the hustle and bustle of the city. we found it a wonderful place called the St. James Club.
We are used to great restaurants in New York and Piccolo Mondo, St. James Club fine dining restaurant, is as good or better than anything in NY. I went twice and had the lamb chops and the salmon; both excellent. The appetizers were delicious as well.
The beach is private, semi-secluded and the sand and water very nice.

Arrived home to snow and ice, but with great memories of a relaxing stay at the St. James Club. We stayed in one of the villa's, and although the decor was slightly tired, it was very spacious and extremly clean. We had no complaints about the food; the menu's are repeated on a weekly basis but by changing where you eat its possible to have something different every evening. There is a good choice and I can honestly say I didn't have one meal I didn't enjoy.
Having read previous reviews I was surprised that there were complaints about the staff - we found them extremly pleasant and helpful throughout.
We prefer the pool to the beach, and spent most of the time at the children's pool which was next dooe to our villa. Most days we had the pool to ourselves which was great, and we appreciated the mobile drinks service which came round a couple of times every day. Another positive was the gym; it's one of the best I've been to in this type of resort (I've been to several with much less equipment; some with limited opening hours, and one with no air conditioning)!
A couple of very minor criticisms; a better choice of fresh fruit would be appreciated, and it was a bit hit and miss whether you got any toast at breakfast - a toaster in the buffet for use of the guests would be preferable to toast delivered in baskets.
But overall a great hotel, happy to recommend it.

Can not of been happier with the weather and the people of Antigua. Very disappointed in the MANAGEMENT and the way he approaches "TIME SHARE" guests versus first timers. We were "upgrades" do to overbooking. The room was lovely YET away from the main accomodations. I recommend that you stay near the ocean side for the warm tropical breeze kept the hot Sun from cooking us. The "Bay " side was lovely and full of water sport options..but HOT. All inclusive left the palate looking for more. Limited options and bland at time, You cant screw up breakfast but lunch and dining were needy. Bar services were low end beer and alcohol. No fresh fruits for the island drinks. Overall we will return to the Island but NOT to the St James.. Not because it wasnt in a great location, it was, the MANAGEMENT lacks proper etiguet Specifically the head Manager. The local staff works their butts off I think because they are intimidated by HIM.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the main area...the Villas for older folks are a shlep to get anywhere.

The St. James Club is ideally located with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and a quiet bay on the other side, perfect for swimming and water sports. The staff is accomodating and very friendly. There are choices for dining on the property. Although there is some repetition in the menu, the food is good. We would have appreciated more local fruit selections however such as mangoes and papayas. All in all, a great week! Kaki

We just arrived home after a fabulous week at the St.James Club in Antigua. One of our best holidays and the first time that we could honestly say we will be back. If you are looking for exceptional service, tranquility and beautiful surroundings this is it! The staff was so genuinely friendly and accomodating. They are actually happy that you chose to stay with them. We especially enjoyed the bayside with all the watersports, that we never had to wait for and always ample beach chairs. The beach staff will take you out snorkling or fishing and you leave right from the beach, no bus or taxi to another location! The St.James Club also offers catamaran tours direct from the resort, fun!. The food was excellent with a nice variety, a vegetarian option always available. We have been to other Caribbean islands and the St.James Club in Antigua is paradise found!

I cannot praise St James Club enough. It was my first visit to the Caribbean with my husband and my 6 month old daughter. We had a 10 night stay at the hotel and enjoyed every minute of it. The room was fantastic, spacious, super comfortable bed. The staff couldn't do enough for us and always welcomed us with a smile. I cannot fault any part of our holiday and cannot wait to go back again this year!!
