“Picturesque, on-site brewery, close to vineyards - perfect!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

We stayed 2 nights in a king villa. The room and bathroom was very spacious with all the features you need for a short stay (air con, TV, fridge, microwave, sink, kettle and coffee/tea, cups/plates/utensils etc). The outdoor patio was lovely, overlooking some bushland paddocks where we had the pleasure of observing a pair of yellow-tailed black cockatoos.

The property was picturesque and serene and a nice short stroll to the pool, spa, BBQ area, tennis court, reception, brewery or restaurant. The food at the restaurant was delicious, with multiple vegetarian options. The brewery was great, really attractive layout and the beers were awesome! Taps connected from the brewery straight to the bar :-) All of the staff were really friendly.

The location was great. A short drive to either Cessnock town centre or the main wine country strip. It was close enough to the main winery areas that the tour companies offered free hotel pickup.

The only things I would suggest to the venue would be to update the mattresses and offer out-of-restaurant hours bar food. Also, to ask patrons to keep their kids quiet/indoors early mornings... We stayed in school holidays and a trio of kids woke us early one morning playing on their scooters in the driveway outside our room. Other than those small things, awesome place and we will definitely stay again.

First, I do want to acknowledge the management of the Hotel. I feel, after reading the reviews of others that they have done their absolute best to accommodate and remained professional on all levels. I was very hesitant but I thought a brewery would be a nice and different experience. We arrived and the staff were friendly..gave us our keys and we were on our way. We thought it was quite handy to have the parking right in front of the villa door. We booked a king villa and before we opened the door I did have in the back of my mind it's a 3.5 star hotel/motel and after the reviews I expected the worse. I'm glad I did because when we threw open the door what I saw was over my expectation. It was clean and comfortable. We had the sliding doors to the back and i thought having a little back court yard with bench was good for smokers and having a nice dinner. I inspected the toilet and the kitchen area and all the flooring, especially the bed, I am a germ fanatic and whilst I found the place spotless I still wiped everything with antibacterial wipes. I was pleased with the cleanliness, the size of the room and the bed and pillows were surprisingly comfortable. The staff at the brewery are friendly and they all try to make your stay fun and comfortable. It's good value for what you get. There were the odd mosquito but keeping doors shut including bathroom door at night and aircon on kept them away. We did not get bitten. I would also like to give feedback to management and housekeeping that when they clean the room to look up at the ceiling, there were a few insects hanging up and cobwebs. It's an easy fix just sweep at ceiling and spray as part of cleaning the room. All in all a nice little gem in the area and it's good value for what it is a 3.5 star hotel/motel. I wouldn't touch the breakfast tho. Skip that. There are other places in the are that are good, such as the deck and emersons at Lovedale or the cafés at hunter valley gardens and for something a little special petersons cuvée restaurant fora bubbly breakfast!

Thank you for providing such a detailed review on your stay at our resort. It is most pleasing to read reviews that outline our positives. Our organisational culture is aimed at exceeding guest’s expectations; it’s wonderful to read that this was the case on your visit. I have taken on board the comments you have made with reference to our ceilings and will use this feedback to make improvements to our resort. Being in rural areas spiders and insects are very common in this region, with that said I will endeavour to bring this to our housekeeping's attention. We look forward to seeing you next time you are in the Hunter Valley.

Upon arriving my partner and I were greeted by friendly and professional staff in reception. After reading poor reviews we were keeping a close eye on our stay here. The resort features absolutely stunning surroundings, plenty of space around the property and extremely well maintained gardens and lawns. It features a full size tennis court, 2 pools with MANY deck chairs (no waiting to kick back and relax). We stayed in a ‘King Villa’ it was just perfect! It had a decent sized bathroom with a large mirror and a bathtub, glass sliding door opening on to a private outdoor area with a gorgeous wooden bench, everything you would need in the kitchenette and not to mention the king size bed!!!! We could not fault our stay one bit, everything was immaculate, staff were all friendly and we loved the Hunter Beer Co beer which is located at the on site brewery. How awesome is that!! Lovely atmosphere, we will definitely be back and recommending Potters!

The villas here have massive double floor length windows with no curtains!!! Just large heavy blockout roller blinds which does the job at night keeping inside dark but during the day, open them & you are on show to the world - it didn't feel comfortable sitting in the room at all and don't start me on the weird breakfast set up. You choose hot or cold but then hot includes most of cold and hot includes all of the hot even if you don't want them & they are left to waste ???

Thank you for taking the time to review our resort. We are set on a spacious 11 acres and ample room to relax and enjoy the tranquil Hunter Valley. We appreciate your feedback in relation to the blinds. Most of our guests prefer to roll the blinds up and enjoy the surroundings and complaints of this nature are certainly few and far between. Considering majority of our rooms back onto natural bushland it is quiet complimentry. Our breakfast selection is relatively simple we have a continental package which is a selection from our cold buffet or a hot plated breakfast. This was introduced in light of guests surveys asking what it is the patrons of the brassiere would like to see. I apologise that we did not exceed your expectations on this occasion and hope to see you at our wonderful resort in the future.

Stayed here for 2 nights to attend concert at local vineyard. The standard price for accommodation is $175- per night however due to event "weekend" the price was jacked up to $450- per night. I admit we were provided with a bottle of wine on arrival and continental breakfast was included - but seriously the accommodation was very basic. The reception staff were very friendly and happy to assist - the breakfast staff were rather rude (if they dislike their job so much - leave)
I have noticed on previous comments the the management have commented that the price was similar to other properties in the area - that may be so - however the standard of accommodation was not.
If I had been charged a reasonable price for the accommodation i would have rated the accommodation a little higher - however there is nothing worse than coming away from a couple of nights away and feeling like you have been totally ripped off.
I am going to Hunter next weekend for another concert - staying at a far better place and only paying $240- per night - go figure.

Thank you for taking the time to review our resort. Our rates are dependent upon special events and activities in the area. Extensive research is done to determine set prices for our event weekends and this is based strongly on supply and demand for the area. We are a 3.5 star resort having bar, brassiere and brewery onsite. On low occupancy weekends yes our standard rooms can go down as low as $175 per night. We did package our room rates at with breakfast and wine for the Bruce Springsteen weekend. We also had a wait list in excess of 20 guests for any cancellations so we were guaranteed to fill our rooms during that busy period. I do apologise that your expectations were not exceeded during this busy time and we hope to see you again sometime in the future.

We had decided to go for a weekend in hunter 24 hours before so there was very little accommodation to choose from. On Potters website it claims to be a "hotel, resort & brewery"
Face facts- it's a motel with some man made ponds that attract Mosquitos to your room.
After a day of wine tasting we weren't keen to drive anywhere so went to the 'resort's' restaurant.
If tab, karaoke and frozen pub meals are your thing- it is heaven. If not - save your money and book somewhere decent and in keeping with a hunter valley wine and food weekend.
The one saving grace was the room we had was clean.

Thank you for your feedback in relation to our resort. We do classify ourselves as a resort and take pride in what it is we provide. Quite simply, we have 3.5 star accommodation, onsite microbrewery, main bar, state of the art tab and other gaming facilities, large brassiere and a separate conference/event centre. Karaoke is our entertainment each and every Saturday night and can fetch large crowds as a good source of entertainment. Our foods are prepared fresh and our pizzas are made on site. I'm sorry to hear your stay with us was not to your expectations. We hope you will consider staying again with us in the future.

My wife and I dropped in for lunch on the day of our concert visit, well it must have been the busiest day of the year. We were prepared for a wait due to the high turnover but we were very pleasantly surprised by speed of the service! We have eaten here previously and we enjoyed the meal, this time was no exception. I would highly recommend the venue for meal and a drink. PS My wife loved the Chesterfields in the front bar area...a great way to relax prior to a busy nights dancing.
