“Great!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

I stayed here on a family reunion, we booked the whole place out and it was great value for money and also great location. This YHA was the best one ive stayed in, great kitchen and entertainment/balcony area, will definantly stay here again!

This actually was one of my first experiences of Australia. I found the surroundings in the YMA to be really nice actually. Bunnies, horses and kangaroos jumping around- red sun setting over the dusty hills. And the start.

A great YMA accommodation it is not- the rooms are very basic, a sad 10 sq and a naked light bulb, but the manager was really nice, he picked us up at the bus station and helped us with booking a wine tour- which was fantastic- so the helpulness was a big plus.

We found the beds to be uncomfortable. We only managed to get a couple of hours of broken sleep. It felt like we were sleeping on the floor and when anyone moved in the bed the other could feel the bed moving. I did not hear the traffic from the road but I do sleep with ear plugs. The fan in our room had two speed stop and flat out. It was stuffy without the fan and too noisy with it on. All the room had was a set of 4 lockers, a wall fan, ceiling light, a mirror, 4 bunk beds with linen and a pillow. The kitchen and bathroom were acceptable plain but functional. Same with the lounge area. It was set in a nice location.

If the beds were more comfortable it would have been pretty good. I do not think that we will back because of the bed issues.

Summary: neat hostel close to everywhere, but nothing too special. good for if you are only staying to sleep

I stayed here for a night on December in the 4 person room with my bf and brother. The room is reasonable size & it is clean. There is a fan & locker for your important stuff. Shower is clean & the hot water is great. The communal area is spacious & tidy. I guess my only complain is just that the bunk bed is kind of noisy, and I can hear it whenever my brother who is sleeping on the top bed move. It's annoying especially if you are a light sleeper. The bed itself it's fine but it's too soft for me & it feels like there are no support on my back after all.

we stayed there for 2 nights in a private room with private bathroom
You get what you pay for : not much.

staff is friendly but bedroom is very small and walls are so thin you can hear conversations in neraby bedrooms. The shower is small and water doesn't stay warm so it's a real pain to get clean (especially to wash hair !).
the building is nice.
kitchen and lounge are in the same room. It wasn't very warm outside yet but it was very warm inside and the fridge was very noisy even when watching TV.

i was surprised as I thought that YHA was good hostel. This is certainly not among the best I've stayed in.

It was only 12 degrees celsius warm in the room when we woke up in the morning. Unacceptable! Even if we had blankets is this not ok! No heater. Well situated in a nice environment. Friendly staff. Expensive if you compare an have in mind this is low season.

This hostel was wonderful and we ended up extending our stay. Nigel was super friendly and helped us with tips on which wineries to visit, cooked kangaroo hamburgers and booked the next hostel for us. The YHA wine tour was good value for the money and we got to see different types of wineries and try A LOT of wine. The wine tour guide was knowledgeable and very friendly. The kitchen was cozy and the verandah gorgeous. The room do get a bit hot at night in the summer, but the friendly staff and the cozy atmosphere did more than make up for it.
Thank you!~

Room Tip: The right side of the building was cooler.
