We have just spent a marvellous 4 weeks in Chateau Marcel in Cesseras . The chateau is situated in a little village in stunning countryside a very convenient 40 minute drive from Carcasonne airport, 5 minutes from the market town of Olonzac, 30 minutes from the beaches of Narbonne and at the foot of the black mountains. There is so much to see and do in this area and the Chateau is an excellent base to do it all from, my husband particularly enjoyed the area for cycling.
Our apartment the Gernache suite situated in them main house above the owners accommodation was a beautiful, quirky, spacious, airy apartment, although there is no air conditioning the ceiling fans provided good airflow. During our stay we had access to the roof terrace in the turret a lovely place to dine and relax although not quite finished, we very much enjoyed using it. The pool area is pretty and an excellent space to cool down after a day out and about or just to sit and read and sample the local produce. Ken and Belinda the owners of this quite unique place were wonderful hosts advising us to what to see and do and nothing was a bother to them . They have only owned the Chateau since April and have undertaken a great deal of refurbishment to a very good standard and although not quite finished our comfort and enjoyment were not affected. I look forward to returning in the near future to see it completed.
Uniqueness of the building it's location and ken and belindas hosting
No laundry facilities in the apartment although Belinda was happy to do laundry for me

We really enjoyed these guests - who stayed for a full month - and we were, in fact, fortunate enough to be invited to a gourmet dinner prepared by the husband who is a professional chef . . . truly a memorable evening's meal in good company. On the subject of air-conditioning, I must say that during the renovation process we had to make the painful decision whether or not to install noisy air-conditioning units onto the exterior of the chateau. We decided that it would spoil the look of the place, ruin the tranquilty of the courtyard and drive up prices as well since we include all utilities in our rental rates. I guess one would have to say that we made a conscious decision to compromise with ceiling fans and retain the historic and architectural integrity of the chateau, avoid noise pollution and keep prices at affordable levels. Anyway, thanks for the feedback and we're glad you enjoyed your stay.
