“Great for a hike”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

This place is amazing, with the lovely wax palms and rivers you will have a great time taking in the fresh air and scenery.
If you are looking for a bit of a harder hike than normal, follow the signs for the La montana walk.
It is also possible to ride horses here.
Take the jeeps from Salento for a 25 minute ride to get there.

“beautiful walk”

The first part is fairly difficult. After that you get a really difficult part, very very steep. After that it is easy going down.

“Wax Palm Cemetery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

We visited for four days . We stayed at El Finca Rancho de Salento. It was a very good choice - clean, comfortable, quiet (except for the soft sounds of the Rio Quindio), access to horseback riding (ask for Nelson), good meals, hot water. The country around Salento is beautiful and worth visiting on foot, or by jeep or horse. The palms are beautiful, but as some locals say, it is a "wax palm cemetery". Except in some more remote locations outside Salento there is one thing missing when you visit the palms in Valle de Cocora. Just look at the photos. Do you see any young palms? If a young palm starts to grow it is eaten by the cattle or tramped on by tourists. No effort is being made to preserve these majestic palms.
Why not a 5? Salento was a mass of tourists the weekend we were there. Was good to wander the back streets and get back to the Rancho.

“So great, easy to organize”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

I quite likes this area. So beautiful, so green! Extremely easy ton get there on the willies jeeps who don't charge too Mich for their service. Entrance is free and the walk is really nice. I didn't give it five stars because of the a,count of tourism there and the horses. The trail was a bit crowded for ,y tastes and the horse tours were constantly pushing me off the trail. They can,e so often I couldn't really just let my eyes wander because a horse would be coming. Some were underfed and others were being forced to run up the trail when they were clearly done for the day. I didn't like that one bit and I would not recommend horses for this. It is beautiful enough without them.
