Came here with family for lunch. It's a proper pub, quite busy and popular, a little old-fashioned. Felt very friendly and local. Interior no great shakes, but not terrible either. We had 2 x roasts, 1 steak and ale pie, and 1 chilli con carne. The menu is standard pub grub, nothing adventurous. On the plus side, the portions were huge, the gravy excellent, and on the whole the meat part of the meals was good. The veg and chips sides were a bit tired, a bit overcooked, dare i say a bit 'school dinners'/1950's. The beer was acceptable but not exceptionally well kept, the dessert was not bad - bread and butter pudding - tasty, but a bit dry for me. Staff were friendly and attentive. So - very nearly a 4 star review, just improve the veg. side dishes and keep the beer a a bit better. It was also pretty cheap, so i suppose good value. If the system on tripadvisor included 'good' rather than 'very good' i'd give it 4
