“hotel casablanca in aajijic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2004

My sister and I recently visited our father, who for the last 13 years has been a resident of the Lake Chapala region located just 30 minutes south of Guadalajara, Mexico. He loves it there and has no interest in leaving it, and we can understand why. With low prices, an extensive American support system and eternal sunshine its a nearly perfect place to retire.

We can highly recommend the Hotel Casa Blanca in the town of Aajijic. Aajijic is a bit smaller than the main city of Chapala, with less commercialism and more charm. Josef and his crew maintain a spotlessly clean establishment on a safe side street, just a couple of blocks from the main square and direclty across the street from the Lake Chapala Society. He was exceptionally helpful in giving us directions and recommendations. He confessed that about 90% of the guests who stay there are North American snowbirds scouting for longterm retirement opportunities.

“Lake Chapala is back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2004

Ajijic sits on the shoreline of Lake Chapala, a 35 minute drive from the airport in Guadalajara Mexico
It has cobblestone streets and wonderful gardens and good restaurants. It still feels like a village with the clip clop of the donkey's hoofs on the stone streets. The only problem with Ajijic is that it is filling up with ex-pats and prices are escalating. I have traveled all over Mexico. Next trip this Christmas will be to Morelia and Patzcuaro. Stay tuned.
