“Delightful Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2007

The inn is lovely - a real change from typical tourist hotels; the owners are helpful, and we could tell Kristine and Santiago cared about their guests' comfort and enjoyment during their stay. We were supposed to stay here two nights, but upon arrival, we were told they had just learned that the villagers were having a very large party that night just adjacent to the inn (parties like this are apparently rare). We took their advice to find another place for our first night in the Pu'uc region (much appreciated as the party lasted until 4am) and came back for our second night. Breakfast was delicious, the room fresh and clean - I wish we could have stayed longer.

We had a great stay. The place is very quiet and serene. The only sounds were heard were those of the jungle. Of all the places we stayed during our Mexican road trip, the Fly Catcher was the most peaceful and had the best water for bathing. I didn’t take any photos but the inn looks just like it does on their website. I recommend the Flycatcher for anyone traveling the area.

This beautiful Inn is located in the heart of Pu'uc region, noted for its many distinctive Mayan ruins, delightful cenotes and kind, generous people. If you are looking for a glimpse into a simpler life off the beaten path, stay more than a few days and you'll begin to feel more in tune with the pace of life in the village of Santa Elena. I enjoyed the quiet evenings on the patio and looked forward to the fresh fruit and good coffee every morning. Kris and San are a wealth of knowledge and insight regarding the people and places of the peninsula. I wish I could have stayed longer!

While travelling through central America in Spring of 2005, my husband and I stayed at a rare gem of accommodations, near the popular Mayan ruins of Uxmal, in central Yucatan, Mexico. In the charming and authentic Mayan village of Santa Elena, this Bed & Breakfast is operated by the owners, an American ex-pat married to a Mayan Indian, fluent in English, Spanish and Mayan, who also live on site and oversee every facet of service. The rooms were spotless and stunningly decorated with finely crafted Mexican and Mayan artwork, and the ample breakfast was homemade, from the breads to the fresh fruit and juices made from fruit trees on the property. The owners were very knowledgable and helped greatly with our travel and sightseeing plans, at no extra charge. Flycatcher Inn is an oasis of comfort in the rough and remote Yucatan! On a trip to the Yucatan to see the ruins, we found a wonderful little B&B very near Uxmal on the Ruta Puuc in Yucatan, Mexico. The Flycatcher Inn is owned by a "displaced American" as Kris calls herself, and her super husband, Santiago. The 4 rooms are spotless and cozy surrounded by tropical vegetation in the tiny Mayan village of Santa Elena. Kris and San knock themselves out to be sure everyone's taken care of! What a delightful find in the middle of the "jungle"! :) I gave it 4 stars because they don't have a/c, but how could you hear the jungle noises with a/c on?? :)
I found them at ---------------------------. There are no phones so you'll have to check the site and e-mail Kris for reservations.
