Well I can't believe no one else has taken the time to rave about the wonderful Shanti House and we were the first to rate on trip advisor. We stayed as a family with our then 16 month old daughter for a 5 day yoga retreat in the summer.
George and Laurie with their daughter Lucy were perfect hosts, very attentive. Their service and cooking was just fantastic. Our needs were not always that easy to accommodate with our little one but we all did our best. Our hosts helped by linking us with a lovely local babysitter, so my husband and I could enjoy some morning yoga each day.
The location wasn't bad but we could have done more with transport, lucky we had friends staying on the island at the same time so managed to get out for a day trip otherwise that would have been very difficult. Walking was great but that main road got very busy during the popular ferry times.
The yoga yurt was just a beautiful space and we were able to use it outside of class times as well. I worried about the noise from us though, with our daughter waking through the night... since the other rooms were nearby on the top floor I was concerned that we were waking up the household of guests, but we were kindly assured they couldn't hear us.
Laurie & George were really adaptive to their menu too, to any dietry requirements and to the times we all wanted to eat. It was lovely to all sit down to meals together as guests... but with a baby at the table it felt hard to keep the formalities from my perspective (think blueberries and cheerios being smushed into the floor and the lovely crockery rattling on the table).
