“Great place to stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We enjoyed our stay at this motel. The room was clean and comfortable and the owners were very nice and accommodating. There are extras there such as a group fire pit and picnic tables. There are also cabins there. The views of the mountains were great and the prices were very reasonable.

We were on a holiday of a lifetime across Canada, had booked it all a year ago. We arrived at Gateway Inn around 19.00 hrs, as soon as we stopped the car knew this was a mistake. The photos on the web site are taken very cleverly and I think give a false illusion to the place. The busy/noisy dual carriageway is very close. There is some sort of woodyard next to the cottages. Have to say there was no one else staying in the other cottages. This was Canada day weekend and no other accommodation available in Canmore, yet this place had so many empty cottages, Tells a story I think. The accommodation was dark, one bedroom was so small it was difficult to get in/out of the bed. The water was a brown colour.Really terrible place and not cheap.
Beware and give this place a miss

Room Tip: Dont stay there !!!

We are sorry to hear about the experience you had staying with us. We have taken over management at the Gateway Inn as of May 2013 and are working hard to correct issues that have been both brought to our attention and found through proactively looking for problems. We have created collections of new photos to ensure that nothing is misrepresented and have been working hard to bring this motel up to modern-day expectations. Since you stayed here we have installed water service provided by the town of Canmore and we are continuing to offer improvements through amenities in the rooms and by cleaning up areas of the property that had been used for storage.

We have travelled extensively throughout North America and have stayed in many different types of accommodations. We found the Gateway Motel in Canmore to be very unique with all of the requirements for a good nights sleep to be very comfortable as well as very clean. Mattresses and bedding were near new as well as fresh linens for bedding. The carpeting and other improvements were also quite evident.

The Manager was very knowledgeable on the area and very helpful.

The Gateway Inn is very visible from the Number 1 Highway and easy to access.

The area between Canmore and Banff provides a view of the Three Sisters Mountains and the quiet outdoor property has a gentle flowing stream behind the building.

A Great Place to Stay!

I stayed there along with 9 other friends for two nights. The location was perfect, very close to the highway with a spectacular view of mountains. Rooms were reasonably clean. The guy at the front desk (Ted) was very helpful. He even provided us with firewood and allowed to mae camp fire during the night. They do provide free wireless internet also. Its about 10-15 Km from Banff and 2 KM from Canmore with plenty of food options within 5 min drive. Overall stay was pleasent.

I was compelled to write a review just to let other travellers know to keep away from this place. We pulled into the Gateway Inn on a late Friday evening after a long 10 hours on the road. It was pouring rain and the sign said open but the door was locked. My husband rang the bell twice before a man (caretaker) stuck his head out of a second floor window and asked my husband questions for 10 minutes before finally coming downstairs to let him in the door. The rooms were old and not very clean. Furniture/fixtures are from 1970. There was a burnhole in the beadspread and the TV was fuzzy. The next morning we discovered there was no extra toilet paper and no phone to buzz the caretaker to ask for some. I got dressed to walk to the main office to get some and the door was locked. A woman unlocked it and when I explained the problem she acted like she didn't believe me. Soon after, I went to take a shower and the cold tap did not work and twisted off in my hand!! At this point, I was very UNhappy about the situation and went back to the main office to complain and get our money back. The woman took her time to unlock the door for me and told me not to take my frustrations out on her. She didn't know where the caretaker was so had to go find him. I went with her and when we found him he acted like he didn't believe me. We did get a refund but it took a lot of hassle@!!! BEWARE!!

We stayed here because they had a cheap ski and stay package for couples at $75 a person. The hotel could use a little upgrading and there wasn't much to do cause the hotel was a few mins aways from everything, but it was clean and average and close to Mount Norquay where we went snowboarding. We would stay again because the package is cheap and its only for a night. The Lady at the front desk seemed nice too :-)
