“Relaxation & great pool !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

We have stayed for 1 week at this nice family run property. The guesthouse itself is surrounded by a large garden, with a play area for kids, a terrace where you can have breakfast and pool area. The pool is beautiful- it is a "wild" pool, with vegetation, but very clean-more like a small lake. Our room was large, with simple but modern furniture and a comfortable double bed. The shower cabin was inside the room- we really liked it-. Peace and quiet. The breakfast-included in the room price- was gourmet- selection of cheeses, ham, boiled egg, milk&frosties, home made jams, apricot pie, fruits, juices. Very good, but 2 minuses: exactly the same dishes every day, and no warm starters-like omelet, sausages, bacon, etc.
Another thing that we really liked is that the bar was open 24/24h (it was a fridge with a large selection of beautiful wines and beers) and you could serve yourself and write on the list what I've had.
Great place to stay for a relaxing vacation. Service to client 100%

Well situated on the Danube bike path, easy to find thanks to abundant signs in the village. Modern building, very well built, spacious and comfortable. Large room with an original and practical bathroom. Warm, welcoming reception on our arrival.

The hotel owns a vineyard (or vice-versa) so you can sample their goods (delicious Wachau white specialties) out of a fridge put at the guests' disposal in the reception area. If only they also had a restaurant ... (There is a very adequate one two hundred meters away though).

We didn't stay at the B&B but had dinner at the restaurant at the inner courtyard. Everything is just delicious and tasty. Lentils, wild ham, "schwein braten", sulz, everything was good. The wine was excellent. They produce bio wine and many of the vegetables are from their own garden.I've been there several times and it was never dissapointing. It's definitely worth a visit. During the day you can ask the owner to show you the casks where they keep the wine, they happily do it!

Very nice place, accessible for dog owners, whichw as a very important factor for us. Nice garden, with separated natural swim area, with sunbeds. Located in a vineyard, with close access to restaurant. Breakfast at the hotel composed of organic food, nice but a little disappointing in respect to amount and variety. Still home-made grape juice is a must have there!
wifi access only in a public areas, poor in rooms.
Donau valley is a beautiful area, worth visiting and exploring.

Room Tip: have breafast early, later there is not much left.

Large room (rooms?!) spotless, very spacious, quiet with natural tasteful colours and materials but functional not "hippy". Lovely fruit/apricot? blossum and other tasteful prints about the place. Deck to sit out during lovely late summer weather. Cleanig staff jolly and unobtrusive. Hosts extremely kind and helpful on every occasion from check-in to departure. Bikes were accomodated in a locked garage(key at desk) -with cycle rack for front parking also. Asked for tea + coffee facils in room and given deluxe - nespresso machine , bio-teabags! Plus self-catering hob , crockery, fridge stocked with fresh pint of bio- milk too!! Fruhstuck should carry luxury descriptor also- as it's quite a spread and almost 100% biodynamic options. Self-service although tea and coffee brought to you at table. Helpful 3 day weather forecast is chalked on the blackboard in breakfast room. Good wifi reception with code at reception/breakfast area. Nikolaihof cares about their guests and the planet and it shows.Very convenient location for other bank destinations Krems, Durnstein etc- a short cycle over to left bank or take a ferry. Short cycle to Tulln- where we arrived from. Mautern Town has 2 supermarkets e.g. Billa, Spar and a tabak for postcard stamps- a very short walk from residential area From NikolaiGH. Own/Local produce- wine, liquors, jams etc to purchase at reception. Great library there also but ran out of time to peruse!! Would return or rec. to anyone doing a Danube/Wachua cycle/walks- many lovely country lane walks e.g. up to Gottweig Abbey BEST of 8 places we stayed at , during our 3 week Danube cycle.

Room Tip: Book well in advance perhaps- coz I think we struggled to get a room to fit in with our cycle itiner...

Just as nice as you could want. Looks new. Rooms are big and airy. Good breakfast. Restaurants in walking distance. All the help a traveler needs cheerfully and completely given. Take a taxi if you arrive by rail. Later you can learn how to take a bus to Stadt Und Krems or to Melk.

My wife and I just finished a 6 night stay, and our enjoyment of the beautiful Wachau Valley was greatly enhanced by the ambience of this hotel, and the hospitality we received. The inn is run by the Samek family. It seems that Frau Samek ensures that guests are welcomed, breakfast is fresh, healthful and tasty, while Herr Samek is there to ensure that all runs well and the hotel is beautifully maintained. The rooms are spacious, bright, well ventilated and very clean. We were fortunate to have a deck to enjoy the nice weather.
Frau Samek was also very helpful in planning our hikes to the various outlooks and attractions in the area, and helping us to find bikes for a ride up and down the Danube. She even took care of washing our laundry, when the local service would have taken too long to return! Members of the same family run the Nikolaihof Restaurant, nearby, where we had a delightful meal. Mautern is not too well known, but works well for a base to explore the Wachau.
Delightful people, place and a great area to explore and enjoy! We look forward to a return stay!
