“Woodward Hut - cute, cosy and so peaceful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

We stayed overnight at Woodward Hut specifically to be at Cape Borda at sunset and weren't disappointed. On arrival we did the entertaining and informative tour of the lighthouse with Ranger Mick and also went on the coastal walk. As dusk approached so did all the kangaroos and wallabies. Sunset was superb. The little hut is basic but cute and cosy with a heater and cooking facilities. The toilet was nearby - only a short walk under a million stars to get to it. It was a wonderful experience ... highly recommended.

Room Tip: Woodward Hut is basic accommodation, good for couples and backpackers. Definitely worthwhile to sta...

Dear Guest kez59

We see you have discovered the secret of Cape Borda – location, location, location! As you have noted, Woodward Hut is basic accommodation but its location is unsurpassed. Your photographs are great and the photo of the interior really captures the cosiness of Woodward Hut. We’re glad that an overnight stay in Woodward Hut allowed you to enjoy that very special experience of a Cape Borda sunset!

We stayed three days at Cape Borda Woodward Hut. We loved the place, the walks, the tour of the lighthouse and of course Woodward Hut which had all we needed. It does not include access to a shower but Mick the Ranger let us use one of the showers in another cabin which was very generous and much appreciated. The Hut is well equiped for basic cooking and includes a small fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave, two single beds (no linen) and is located right next to the lighthouse. We booked online and received a 10% discount so at $40 per night it was a bargain.

Thanks to Mick for giving a personal tour of the lighthouse and the grounds. The light keeper's cottage is well equipped although somewhat haphazardly designed. Sharing it with mice was something we had got use to in Kangaroo Island before we got to Borda. One day and night is sufficient to see all. I only wish the road would be graded.

We loved it at Cape Borda, the peacefulness, the wildlife, the surroundings made it a really lovely place to stay. The staff at the lighthouse were helpful and friendly and their knowledge added to our experience. As for the negatives, which were few - the road there is a bit rough in sections and the cabin could have been a bit cleaner but these aspects were far outweighed by the bright stars swept by a path of light from the lighthouse, nearly tripping over a kangaroo in the evening that is munching on grass near the cabin and the utter quiet.

After ploughing through muddy roads and being engulfed in the sea mist, we were welcomed by Ranger Mick, an engaging and knowledgeable guide. Wildlife abounds and as the mist lifted we realised what a great location Cape Borda is.
We stayed at the light keeper’s cottage which is large, comfortable and fully equipped. Don't miss Mick's tour, or the great little reading room with copies of the log books telling what daily life was like for a light keeper.
This is the most remote of the three lighthouses, with no shops or houses close by it provides a real feeling of what life would have been like for light keepers and their families – but with modern amenities.

Great place, lots of roos, great walks (especially Ravine des Cassoars), and Mick telling us about the last real lighthouse in South Australia. Comfortable accommodation even when chilly

Wonderful, peaceful, bright and clean; plenty of roos, warm inside, windy without just as it should be.

Room Tip: Yes, there is no swimming pool! Its a lighthouse keeper's cottage.
