Six nights at Awera wasn't enough!Just my style. Beautiful setting, comfortable accommodation, good food and great value for money. The staff all made us feel very welcome and worked hard to make our stay memorable. Take a good book put your feet up and unwind. Once you adjust to the pace of this place its very enjoyable. Unfortunately the swell didn't turn up for us but we still had waves at Icelands and saw the potential at Telescopes and out the front of the camp. Land based accommodation like this is a great option when visiting the Mentawais, especially if boats aren't to your liking. The charter boats and surfers come and go with only minimal benefits for the locals, if any. The camp provides employment for local people in a very impoverished part of the world. Some would say minimum impact is a good thing but I think there is a great future for this type of tourism in the Mentawais.
