First and most important thing: apart from 1 person, the staff is not rude - but later on that. Together with my wife we caught a very good deal on the Lukashansl at the New Year’s Eve week and covering her birthday, starting 29.12.2012. Upon arrival, we were checked in by a nice and polite lady to our room. Unluckily, the room was located right next (wall to wall) to the elevator, so immediately I went back down to the same lady and wanted to change rooms, to get something that was not right next to the elevator. I was asked to wait for the manager. It was 4 pm, so just 1 hour after check-in had started. The manager came and was obviously annoyed with me wanting to change something. I asked to get another room because the one we got as a first impression got us thinking we won’t sleep because of the elevator going up and down all the time. It is not a silent, brand new elevator. The manager told me that it is impossible, because she has no rooms, and I did not "have special requests that I wanted a quiet room". (sic!) So I started asking if I understand her correctly, that a room where you can sleep must be declared in advance, and if a quiet room really is a special request??? She was convinced that yes. It was just 1 hour after check-in time, so it was impossible that all rooms were taken. At one point I mentioned the negative feedback on tripadvisor, and heard that people write whatever they want. I asked if perhaps, she would like to show some good-will and perhaps, would want to get a good opinion, and what was the reception managers’ reaction? "I don’t care what people write, if you didn’t like opinions then why did you come here?" At that point fighting over the room had no sense.
You do not put a person like that to deal with guests; you keep her closed in the backroom, dealing with her accounting stuff.
I was tipped off, and came back. Then my wife made a second attempt and started to talk to this first lady. Apparently she was able to find a free room, which finally we did take for other reasons and settled with the one with the elevator.
All in all, the elevator was not so bad; it didn’t cause us trouble at night, even at new -year’s eve.
Overall first impression was terrible and with that attitude no wonder people get angry and post negative opinions.
But it would be unfair to say that the hotel staff and owners are rude impolite and unfriendly. The place is run by a family. Practically everyone working there is family, so I can’t generalize that the owners are unfriendly because it is not true, only one of them bites. All the other do their best to serve the guests, perhaps, they haven't acquired top manners and hospitality training centers, but by no means are they rude or arrogant.
The hotel, together with the attached Lukashansl Gasthof is very big, 4 floors, 2 buildings. Dealing with a large number of clients, with the same, quantity wise limited staff can be a challenge. And they dealt with it very well.
We were very positively surprised with the food and particularly New Year’s Eve 5 course dinner, which was included. Food was very good every day. Breakfasts were in a buffet style, not huge variety, but correct and good enough to get an energy boost before a day at the mountain. Dinners were not huge and wouldn't leave you stuffed, but were very tasty, always two main courses to choose from. If you want to get stuffed you can enjoy the tasty potato salad at the salad bar ;). Table cloths changed after each guest, and food was served quite fast.
The hotel itself is rather old. The rooms are warm with thermoregulators), not too large, sleeping area around 10sqm, double bed with dual mattresses. Some appreciate it, as I do, others, like my wife don’t. The room is made in wood, which gives them this nice cute look, as pictured. Some of them have LCD TVs; some have a 25 inch old style TV, as ours did. The bathroom is correct, with shower without too too much mildew, but old; rugs in ok/good condition. Furniture is made of hardwood, so lasts long and never gets old. No fridge in room. The balcony, if your room is facing the street, is shared with other rooms, but has a beautiful view overlooking the church, stream and the great mountains. The street was not too noisy and a big plus for us was the garage at a small extra fee, right next to the gasthof.
As to location it is centrally located in the town, but without high traffic and loud buses running under your windows, because the town is small and very calm.
We did not have problems with loud partiers, even on Christmas Eve, apart from the fact, that some nations, tend to be louder than others, but this is something you will experience in every hotel. We didn’t not take advantage of the everyday after-ski in the hotel, which was very popular among other guests.
-if you want a good view, take the room from the street side. But for quietness, for sure the other...
