As we drove in to the car park, our hearts sank; the hotel looked like it had stepped out of the 1960's, with its old-fashioned logos and signage. It wasn't helped by being next door to a poor relation of a KFC takeaway.
The guy at the front desk was really friendly (the only reason we decided to continue with the booking) and spoke good English. Our room was cramped but clean and the bathroom was acceptable. There had been an attempt at updating the decor but it looked very odd (a purple and grey scheme).
We went into the town to get a meal and astonishingly could not find a restaurant. Some brasseries only served food on Fridays and Saturdays and one pizzeria we found didn't open until 7pm. Mantes la Jolie is not a good place to be hungry. We eventually went to McDonald's.
Overall, not a pleasant experience and we won't be repeating it.
