We stayed at the Eels Foot Inn over a Sunday night in February. The pub itself is tiny and had a wood burning stove which was comforting on such a chilly weekend. On arrival, we were given a warm welcome and were shown to our room which was large and clean. The location of the Eels Foot is perfect for walking as it is just on the edge of Minsmere and only a short drive to Southwold and Walberswick. We enjoyed our evening meal and the staff and locals were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also substantial and delicious - everything you could wish for from toast and cereals to a Full English. I think our only slight disappointment was that the pub, on that particular evening, was very quiet and by 9pm, we found ourselves alone. We had hoped for a cosy evening in the pub but the hard wooden chairs and tables and lack of even any piped music meant that the place lacked atmosphere and we ended up feeling very self conscious sitting on our own knowing that the staff could hear every word we said. The rooms also, are not at all cosy. Again, hard surfaces and basic furnishings are all very practical, so I am not knocking that, but a romanic retreat this is not.
