Description: Hotel Endsleigh dining room is a superbly stylish, historic spot on the edge of Dartmoor with unmatched views, the sister hotel of the superhot Tresanton in Cornwall. Hip designer Olga Polizzi has winningly brought the historic Grade I shooting and fishing lodge into the 21st century while honouring its Regency soul and it is run by her perfectionist daughter Alex Polizzi. The elegant wood-panelled dining room with the Duke of Bedford and friends family crests looks out onto the Humphrey Repton garden. Chef Christopher Dyke uses local and regional produce to devise his English menu complemented by a thoughtful international wine list. This is country house cool.

“fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

I was tempted to this restaurant because I had a sample of the food at a plymouth food fare, the staff informed me that the chef was able to cater for all diets and anyway I had to travel within 5 miles of the restaurant on my way return that day to North Devon. I was very pleasantly surprised by the chef later that day russelling up a tomatoe soup and a pork, carrot and roast potoato meal that was not on the menu. I also had a menu listed mixed crab and avocado starter. Each item was outstanding .. tasty, fresh, succulent, from scratch, precisely and fanatically presented and unique in combination, but not showy avant guard.
The restaurant had outstanding views over a deep wooded valley with fast flowing river with banks of full flower borders.
The service was attentive but not intrusive, knowledgable, friendly and helpful.
The tables were beautifully laid with a theme of night lights from door to table and awaiting dinner we sat in the best stocked libuary of classics it was tempting to continue to read rather than move to the table.
All the food was eaten and we will be back.

“Intimate and exquisite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

There was a large party in that evening, and the Hotel very kindly gave us a private room, although I have no idea if the two were connected. The fire was lit, the details attended to, and the food first class

“Afternoon tea treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

A friend and I had afternoon tea this week at Endsleigh and the surroundings and presentation were everything one would expect from this glorious gem of a hotel deep in the countryside. Lucky to have a fine day, we loved the gardens and could have spend all day exploring the wonderful grounds.
But! tea was sandwiches (ham, cheese and tomato, egg, smoked salmon) and cake (chocolate brownie, v good, coffee and walnut, v good, fatless sponge, dry and tasteless.Plus scones, jam and lots of clotted cream, v nice
Perhaps I have watched too many TV programmes but did expect dainty savouries, miniature pastries, exquisite tarts, things I could not have made myself.
That apart, a lovely afternoon, nice staff, would love to try dinner here sometime as I think it would be very good from the menu we saw.
