Thank you staff at godshuis, from the front desk to the brasserie to the spa staff, everyone was really nice. The food in Antonias brasserie was excellent, although I would recommend choosing from the a la carte manu and not the set menu if you can. Appetisers were ok, some times seemed like they had been sitting out for a while, really good steak.

We were on a romantic weekend. The weather was exceptionally hot (above 30°C). As we checked in (15h30), the girl at the desk told us about a major electricity failure during the whole morning. As a result of that, some of the rooms had no airconditionning. And yes, we were one of those unfortunated customers. We were forced to open the window to lower the temperature a bit (but not much), and therefore grant free access to the mosquitoes in the room. The room was a duplex: sitting corner and a desk on the lower level and on the upper level the bedroom and bathroom. Verry nicely arranged. But so hot! We cold'nt sleep up there.
At the reception they didn't bother to have any kind of solution to offer, such as some extra chilled water and/or sparkling water to preserve in the minibar. Nada, nothing... We were happy to check out from this hotel.
We have also some things to say about the restaurant there. Our conclusion is siple: stay away from there! If you want to know more about this restaurant, read my review of the "Antonia's Brasserie" on thes site.
If you're lokking for a better stay in the region, certainly check the Cleythil Hotel. I'll write a review for this one too.

Room Tip: Claim a room with A WORKING airconditionning system. They have some. If it's warm outside, you...

There is no doubt that the building and the rooms are great, but the service is absolutely horrible. I travel to this hotel quite often for business in the region (there are no other hotel options). Every time when we want some food from the restaurant or a drink at the bar, we have to go find the staff. There is never no one to be found. And when you finally get a drink enjoy it, because for your next drink you will have to go find them all over again. When you have questions about the wifi or just about anything, no one has an answer for you. They go find someone who is supposed to know and that's the last you hear from them. Great building and rooms, but no hospitality what so ever (based on 4 visits now).

Room Tip: when you are standing in front of the front desk (face towards the counter), make sure you get a roo...

Stayed in this hotel for two days for a company meeting.

Great room: they are all quite different. Our's was quite big, we a wonderfull bed, nice bathroom. Liked the combination between the older parts of the building (brikstone wall) and classical/modern design (good quality)

Food: had one dinner, and two lunches here. Very good quality: fresh and good tastes. a very positive surprise. Breakfast in the cellar was OK, but not more than that.

The building: nice historical building

Meeting rooms: wonderful, especially the big ones with large windows. Felt like sitting outside.

Staff: very friendly, always smiling, professional

Negative? nothing, for my stay. However, we had a big party until 4 o'clock in the morning. So I can only imagine staying here on for example a romantic getaway, with like a wedding or another party going on, it's a disaster to stay here. Of course in my case that did not bother me. I had a wonderful stay.

We stayed on the ground floor, room Mauro, during the week. The long high halls in the building can resonate so I can imagine that staying here during a wedding is not entirely sound proof.

The room has very high ceilings, is a split level and has a very large window. The (large and comfortable) bed and bathroom are on the upper part.

Receptionist was very friendly. Can't recognize the negative reviews as my experience was great. Breakfast was a more than decent buffet, I think it's more revealing that people manage to criticize this. But I guess that is what revelations is all about:)

Sauna was more than what I hoped for and there is also a Turkish Hammam or steaming room. To relax there is a small but sufficient relax area. This wellness is a wonderful plus to the hotel.

We visited Damme, Middelburg -the Belgian village, not the Dutch city- and Breskens. Enjoyed driving through the countryside which they call Meetjesland.

We stayed at this hotel for one night. One of the reviews stated that service is ok if you get them to act, and this was clearly demonstrated during our stay. Our room was on the top floor (2nd) next to an elevator, which made a terrible noise every time it went up or down. We were prepared to check out and leave the hotel immediately, but luckily another guest had apparently cancelled the room, and we were given another room in the corner. It was a quiet and pleasant room, just beneath the rooftop, with two windows that could open. Lots of space and fresh air, and clean too.

Breakfast, however, was quite a dissappointment: apart from champagne (with nothing suited to complement it, though), and relatively nice coffee, the orange juice was not fresh, and far too sweet. The boiled eggs were cold, the scrambled eggs were too cold and looked like a thick concrete mass. Bread was boring, with the taste and structure of cardboard. There was very little choice: cheese, ham or chorizo, or small packages of marmelade, nutella, cereals; anything you could buy in any supermarket. Our impression: breakfast is extremely boring here, and the kitchen seems lazy. The kind of breakfast you would expect in a two star accommodation.

This was also clear from our dinner at the brasserie. In my opinion the chef can do with a lesson or two to refresh his/her knowledge about taste. Soup was too salty, combinations not refined in taste and sometimes downright scaring, the plates were damaged ... Everything told us that any meaningful effort was being avoided here. A shame, because life is too short for average food and average service. And that is what this hotel is about ... So a definite no go!

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms next to an elevator if you are a light sleeper.
