My wife & I visited Pebblebed in 2010 for tapas & tasting & thoroughly enjoyed it. We returned on 16 August 2012 with my sister & her husband & it was a disaster. After the vineyard tour (which was OK), we went down the road to the winery ( a barn with absolutely no ambiance whatsoever) & the tasting began. The first, a sparkling white , tasted & smelt of cheese, & it went downhill from there, because we had to use the same glass for all the other tastings ! The only wine I liked was the red & all the others were very poor & went in the bin, a couple alongside us did the same. Then we went to Topsham for the tapas, which was good, apart from the pate, which we ordered, but were told later that it was still frozen & eventually that it was not available (ie still frozen). The couple sitting alongside us there said exactly the same about the tastings, so we were not alone in our views.
I then complained to the lady with dark curly hair about our experiences of the day. She listened & sympathised, & said she would tell Geoff (the owner). When leaving I asked Geoff if she had updated him on our experience, which she had, & he apologised to me, but did not want to talk about it & was not interested as he was too busy networking with his friends. He did not offer anything other than the grudging apology, which in no way made up for our bad experiences, & I even had to pay for the 3 glasses of wine we had to buy to accompany our tapas. In the circumstances I told him we definitely would not return & he said OK !! This is a great shame as we so enjoyed the whole experience in 2010.
