“Character & great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

I stayed for one night on a business trip and will stay here again when in the area. The staff for hotel, bar & restaurant were helpful but not intrusive. Room was comfortable, quiet and the food was very good.

Arriving in Topsham amidst some of the worst weather in decades did not bode well for the rest of the weekend. The Inn is easily found though parking is not so. The car park is accessed from Fore street through a very narrow arch that bares the scars of previous encounters. Once in, it's clear that there must be somewher else to park. After a (potentially very expensive) foray to the Swimming Pool car park, we decamped to reception to book in and enquire. Sure enough, rather than the £8 or so at the aforementioned, we were redirected to a much heaper and (as it turened out) much closer one in the back streets. Just ask. The staff are more than just helpful.

The rooms were lovely, well sized and furnished and the bathrooms excellent. Though we did not eat dinner there, the menu looks lovely and the diners we did see were enjoying good helpings of what looked like very good food.

The bar, we did use and lovely it was too. Good St Austell beer and excellent service.

A good nights sleep in a large comfortable bed prepared us for a wonderful cooked breakfast which set us up for the 200 plus mile journey back to Bedfordshire.

Staff were excellent and very knowledgeable about other places in the village.

.... The Mighty Saints beat Exeter in the last three minutes so....

Room Tip: Some rooms are over the bar others face the quiet courtyard. Up to you, though there are only 19 ro...

One night stay, but will return again. We had one of the old waney floor rooms over the bar, but the noise did not keep us awake. Beer is excellent, breakfast also. Staff were more than helpful. Really can't recommend it too highly.

Parking is an issue even in winter - in summer that might be problematic as the hooray-henries are always bedblocking down by the harbour (so my brither and sister who live inTopsham inform me).

Room Tip: It's not far to stagger to rooms 1 & 2.

We visit this hotel on a regular basis and the service is always good and the staff friendly and welcoming.

On Saturday we attended their Burn's Night Dinner and had an amazing evening. The quality of the food was exceptional. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the entertainment.

We had a really excellent evening and would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Sorry, touched swimming pool rating in error - there isn't one?

This was my visit to Topsham and we had a very pleasant experience at the Globe. The staff were friendly and fun from check in at reception, in the bar and the restaurant. We stayed in a room above the bar - the room was a good size, well appointed (superb shower!) and immaculately presented. Some friends who had children with them had a family room which was equally nice. There was some noise from the bar but after all it was New Year's Eve and I was fairly oblivious to it!! Breakfast was excellent and we would have no hesitation in staying there again. One big plus point is that the hotel does have parking which is a big bonus in the town.

Had weekend stay here between Christmas and new year. Our room was in the main building above restaurant. It was a well appointed room, comfortable bed, tea, coffee, wifi, local information all provided in the room. It's a lovely old building and we had quite a wonky floor which added to the charms. Breakfast was ok, more variety in the cooked breakfast than the continents which was looking a bit sorry when we got there at 9am both mornings. The bar had a nice atmosphere both nights, a good mix of locals and guests. We had dinner here both nights and the food was very nice and reasonably priced.
We did go up to the room at 10:30pm one evening and could hear the bar below but it wasn't too loud and was totally quiet by midnight. If you are early to bed you might be better off in a room out the back.
Very convenient for Exeter. It is less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel to the train station where an off peak return to Exeter was only £2.70 so much cheaper than driving and parking. However, Topsham is good for a wander too, pretty boutiques to explore and a couple of nice pubs to visit. There are also some nice restaurants but they were not open when we visited.
The staff on reception in the bar and the restaurant were all helpful and friendly. Would stay here again.

On a previous visit I found that the hotel suffered from a lack of attention to detail. There was rubbish left by previous occupants in the room and the plumbing in the bathroom was hanging from the wall. Apparently by chance we stayed in the same room again. What a change!. It was immaculately cleaned and the plumbing had been attended to. I was greatly impressed.

The Globe is a pleasant place to stay and very convenient for Exeter. So to be able to report an improvement is good news. Incidentally, the reception staff seem uniformly friendly and helpful.
