We found this gem by accident - sat nav recommendation - when visiting Frasassi Caves. What a find.
Food and service are excellent and the experience far more enjoyable than our dinner at Osteria Francescana (3 Michelin star) earlier in the week.
A bread basket arrived promptly after ordering with homemade, irrestible fresh bread as well as some tasty little morsels filled with walnut or olive.
I started with pasatelli and fossa cheese, whilst my fiance had tagliatelle with truffle. I can comment on both as his smelled so good I couldn't help but stick my fork in for a mouthful of his. Pasta was perfect texture (handmade on the premises), truffle was rich in flavour, the fossa cheese delicious.
For main we both had steak with truffle - i had a rib eye, he had a fillet. Truffle wasn't as flavoursome as in the starter, but that was ok as meant didn't overpower the meat.
Wine list is extensive with a great local selection but doesn't ignore the rest of the world. Sommelier was very attentive, wine was servered in crystal glasses. More than what we were expecting from a rustic, local restaurant.
Prices are very reasonable.
The interior is rustic, however the very friendly waitress took our order on a touch pad so I would not consider the place dated! There was a tv playing italian soaps but given the quality of our lunch, it was easily ignored.
We both agreed that any future trips to the area would include a stop at Da Maria and would certainly recommend it to anyone finding themselves in the area.
