“Perfect spot in Baan Grood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

This resort is clean, new, and has a huge swimming pool that allows clear views of the beach and ocean in front of you. Breakfast buffet was terrific and the Thai food at their restaurant very delicious and not overpriced. The setting is relaxing and luxurious. The Baan Grood area is quite special and let's hope development doesn't destroy the charm of this easy going little town. Free bicycles make it easy to get around. Mopeds were easy to rent here, and were perfect for exploring the area even further. We would be eager to stay here again if we can come back to Baan Grood.

Room Tip: The poolside rooms seem to have little privacy, but the garden rooms are perfect- the regular rooms...

The first surprise is that the BGA is slam on the beach road so if you had notions of strolling off the hotel grounds on to the sand do look out for on oncoming traffic, sparse as it maybe!! The biggie is the standard room which frankly we didn't bargain for at 2000 THB was two hundred meters behind and you came out of your door and saw someones backyard!! You had to cycle to get there from the reception too. Certainly not worth the 5 hour drive from Bangkok. And "Standard" it was ...you could be anywhere in the world, it didn't feel like Thailand either. We were close to moving the same night when we decided to negotiate for a better room since we were two families ...

Luckily we landed a Garden Villa with extra beds and suddenly next day BGA was a completely different experience. The room was private with balconies where you could sit and the rooms and open to air shower in the bathroom revived our flagging spirits.

From then on BGA was this magical place on a magical beach with cycles to go anywhere we had a super stay. the breakfast buffet was elaborate and tasty.

If you have a room in front get ready for karaoke till 11 pm but i would encourage you to blend in we did and the Thais were appreciative and welcoming. This is really where the Thais holiday the Hua Hin of yore. The Burma border is 10 miles away so don't expect the sleaze that unfortunately comes to be associated with beaches.

My son and I fished by the fishing village passing boatmen would throw us squid for bait it was a beautiful spot in the shadow of a Wat (temple) on the nearby hill. The view from the hill is breathtaking. We missed seeing the sunrise from there but we will be back.

The Spa is a little overpriced given the Bangkok prices. But worth it after all the exercise one gets cycling fishing walking and swimming! The BGA restaurant has good food but try all the others dotting the road especially Wavz which serves excellent non Thai food read great pizzas shakes burgers and delicious breakfasts.

The train station is close as is the local market one can even get

Room Tip: I have said enough ...stay away from the Standard at 2000 THB, you are better off down the road...I...

We stayed at Baad Grood for two nights and had a standard room for 1200 THB including breakfast which we considered to be quiet cheap for the value you get. Hotel staff picked us up at the highway (for 100THB per person) where the minibus from Chumphon dropped us off. Transfer to railway station is free of charge. The room was very clean, had a nice small balcony and was equipped with air conditioning. The building for the standard and superior rooms is located in the back of the area, a few meters away from the beach. The pool, the restaurant of the resort and the bungalows in the front of the building directly at the beach. The breakfast was ok for Thailand and offered a nice choice of Thai food, fruits and even toasts and eggs. For lunch and dinner we tried the restaurants along the street. Best restaurant was Tam-Mai Restaurant a few hundret meters along the beach in north direction.

The hotel is very nice and allover more than I have expected.
The room (Deluxe Villa Garden) is spacious, clean and confortable with fridge, TV and airconditioner.
The pool area is rather large, one big pool, one jacuzzi and also a childrens pool. The hotel has a nice restaurant with tasty food and also a café/bar by the pool.
The location of the hotel is nice. Very close to the beach, approx 30 meters, and the water is nice.
The village, of which the hotel was located, is small but has a few restaurants/hotels and also 7eleven and some other shops.

Room Tip: I would chose the Deluxe Villa Sea/Garden View since the Standars & Superior rooms are far from...

Best ever got in Thailand for small money in the last 10 years. Quiet, directly opposite beach front, nice pool area, friendly and clean spa nearby, clean rooms, but very small without any wardrobe, free bicycles for doing trips in the area around. Go only 4 miles north or south and You´ll find a beach to feel like Robinson Crusoe. Perfect for relaxing. The sea was not so cear, but there was a heavy rainstorm only 200 miles south, so the sea was a little bit rought.
The food in the Hotel rest was good, but You´ll find more good an cheap rests nearby along the beach road.
We plan to come back soon

This resort is a great place for a quite time by the pool or on the beach. Not so great breakfast for westeners. Missed cheese, bread options, pancake or french toast. The bikes to borrow from the resort was great :)

Room Tip: The villas by the pool with sea view are worth the extra buck...

We were lucky to be able to stay here for 5 nights although we wanted 7. The staff were extremely helpful and still have the lovely Thai charm compared to some over developed areas of Thailand like Phuket or Khao Lak. Each one smiles ....

The breakfast is more than enough.

The rooms are adequate and proximity to the well-maintained beach is highly appreciated.

The pool temperature is some what 'hot', so if you think of refreshing yourself in the afternoon in the pool, it was not quite possible.

The massage charges (See Sea Spa) is somewhat out-of-tune among its class with the rest of Thailand!

Room Tip: Had room 208 .. very good.
