“Great quiet resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

This resort is a great place for a quite time by the pool or on the beach. Not so great breakfast for westeners. Missed cheese, bread options, pancake or french toast. The bikes to borrow from the resort was great :)

Room Tip: The villas by the pool with sea view are worth the extra buck...

We were lucky to be able to stay here for 5 nights although we wanted 7. The staff were extremely helpful and still have the lovely Thai charm compared to some over developed areas of Thailand like Phuket or Khao Lak. Each one smiles ....

The breakfast is more than enough.

The rooms are adequate and proximity to the well-maintained beach is highly appreciated.

The pool temperature is some what 'hot', so if you think of refreshing yourself in the afternoon in the pool, it was not quite possible.

The massage charges (See Sea Spa) is somewhat out-of-tune among its class with the rest of Thailand!

Room Tip: Had room 208 .. very good.

Booked here for two nights just to check out the town and ended up staying a week. We were moved around a couple of times to fit in with existing bookings and experienced both standard and superior rooms and a garden villa.

Standard room - small, no wardrobe or safe but clean and comfortable. Our room overlooked the main "road" running up from the seafront to the hotel block (which is at the back of the complex) - there was a little light pollution from outside (thicker curtains would help) but not a huge issue, and it was quiet at night. Mornings could be a bit noisier with the housekeeping staff going around - they're obviously very efficient but their walkie talkies are quite loud. There's also an electronics shop behind the resort complex which has a good speaker system and will occasionally blast loud music throughout the day. We actually found this quite enjoyable at times, it never woke us up but is worth noting - you will hear it in both standard or superior rooms.

Superior room - similar to standard but on the ends of the building. You get a tiny wardrobe, a safe, loads more space and a nicer TV. It doesn't cost much more but I think it's worth it for the extra space.

Villa feels very luxurious, much nicer bathroom with more toiletries and both indoor and outdoor (very well secluded) shower. Tea and coffee making facilities, DVD player and bathrobes as well as a nice front deck with seating. However, it costs about twice as much as a room. It was noisier at night due to people sitting and chatting in shared outside areas until late - and because the window blinds didn't sit flush against the windows, my partner had trouble sleeping due to somebody else's balcony light shining right at him. For this reason I'd recommend a room in the block if you want a more peaceful night.

The staff were fantastic during our stay - and our room moves and checking in and out were made very easy and efficient with the electric buggy! Members of housekeeping and other staff would always say hello and have a smile for us.

Free use of the bicycles was very welcome and we made very good use of them. Staff do clearly try to keep them oiled and functional but the brakes could be better maintained, we considered ourselves lucky to find a bicycle with one decent brake! Most are also too small for most westerners and you can't get the saddle to a proper height. Nevertheless, we used the resort bicycles almost constantly for getting to the station, market, 7/11, other end of town and also for exploring the area - we rode up to the buddha cave to the north, along the beach road to the south, up to the giant buddha and the temple... there aren't many sights to see within cycling distance but the surrounding area is just beautiful and an attraction in its own right.

Breakfast was OK, nice fresh fruit, plenty of Thai options as well as sausages, omelette, cereal, toast, juice, coffee. Best to come early if you want the Thai stuff as it does sit around for the whole breakfast period and the lid is often left off.

The pool was fantastic, the onsite cafe was nice, and also a very peaceful place to sit in the mornings while everybody's still at breakfast. We tried the hotel food a couple of times - a bit more expensive than local restaurants but very good and they'll also bring you drinks and lovely ice cream from the cafe.

Room Tip: Superior much more spacious than standard. Villas are luxurious but more prone to noise from pool ar...

Discovered this on our last night on our way back to Bangkok from the south. Wish we could have stayed longer. Lovely location just across the road from quiet beach. Great pool, restaurant (chicken with Thai basil blew my head off!). and they make a good Mai Tai. Room was functional at the back of the complex in a hotel block. The private villas you had to pass to get there looked great. Nice touch, free tatty bikes to get around on.

Niggles:

- They charged us rather a lot for some urgent (compassionate) international 'phone calls. You have to go to reception; you cannot make them from your room.

- No bacon for breakfast!

This is a hotel for quiet people of a certain age... it is not a wild backpacker party resort.

We would go back; and if we could afford it, get one of the villas.

After a noisy stay at Ban Montra hotel, our family so happy to find Arcadia. Restaurant food is very good, swimming pool excellent, staffs very friendly all the time. Near beach and other restaurants for a change of cuisine. Our kids loved everything about Arcadia. Want to go back. Be careful of too many old, fat russians and germans in ban krood. everywhere, and they are not happy! eldest daughter said they are scary and for us too.

Stayed here for 3 nights in a superior room. The rooms are not 4* but clean and perfectly adequate for a short stay. The lack of hanging space/drawers could make a longer stay more of a problem. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room would also be good but there is a nice coffee shop attached to the hotel. The breakfast is also adequate for a short stay only. The rest of the hotel facilities would rate as 4* and a friendly effecient service. The push bikes are an added bonus.
This is in my opinion not a long stay hotel as it is very, very quiet during the week (even in peak season) - one 7/11, couple small bars, 2/3 restaurants within walking distance. But great for a short break. I do understand it can be a lot busier at weelends/thai holidays.
Would definately go back.

The hotel is very quiet and calm. Good staff. The rooms was clean and nice. Air conditioners were working properly. The hotel territory is very beautiful - lots of flowers. Restaurant is very good. The hotel is directly opposite the beautiful beach. It is a perfect place relaxing holiday away from the noise and crowds.
