You know how this happens. You post an unrelated note on Facebook, and a friend replies " I am working at XYZ restaurant, if you are ever in the area, stop by". SO THAT HAPPENED.
Our friend (Jeff) mentioned he worked at Maximiliano in Highland Park. A 16 mile LA Drive from home.
I called ahead on a Friday night, and the restaurant was totally full. I asked if there was seating at the bar. "yes, first come, first served". Kudos to the hostess who took our call and said "just come in, we'll figure something out". At 7:30 p.m. we arrived and squeezed into two seats at the bar and Spencer was our waiter and bartender. When the hostess figured out we called earlier and asked if we wanted a table, we said we were fine at the bar, kudos for asking! And locating us.
(deleted cute neighborhood scene notes) --> Back to dinner at the bar -
Checked out the menu, Starter salad to split: Wild Arugula: shaved Pecorino, lemon, olive oil, sea salt $7 .Hubby ordered Spaghetti and Meatballs: homemade veal, pork, beef meatballs, pomodoro $14. Jeff suggested Bombolotti: peas, kale, ricotta, mushrooms, pesto, parmesan, toasted pine nuts $15, The shared bitter salad was a perfect starter to our pasta dishes
Dessert: OMG Olive oil ice cream with sea salt caramel sauce on top.$7 (I think) Divine to share! This momth's Intelligensia coffee - meh. We both thought it tasted watered down. Our home brew (Peets) is better every morning.
Recommend this restaurant. No attitude, from staff or customers. Yay for LA
Service: We valet parked $3,50. I left something in the parked car and the valet brought it to my table. $$ extra Tip. Corkage was comped by our friend, Jeff, and we not only $$ tipped , but will gladly return for another great meal. Spencer was a great waiter on our first visit.
Motto: My Golden LA Rule: Tip unto others as you would have others tip unto you!
