We just returned from a 2 night stay at the Marriott Grand Residence in So. Lake Tahoe and were extremely pleased with the hotel. I've posted pictures because the ones I saw posted previously don't do it justice. We stayed in a 1 bedroom, 2 ba suite with a full kitchen. Here's why we LOVE this hotel:
-Beautiful, updated, warm room with pull out sofa, leather chair, fireplace, dining table and kitchen.. Very roomy, beautiful kitchen w/ granite counters. Our kids ages 12 & 9 decided to sleep on the wide window seats on either side of the fireplace instead of the pull out sofa (see pictures).
-Separate bedroom with its own fireplace, tv and a nice size jetted tub.
-Beautiful hotel all around, and great location right next to cinema, gondola, shopping, many restaurants, Raley's, Starbuck's & beach. I asked to see the room first before checking in. I had asked for a lake view room but the rooms facing the lake don't have a water view. We were above the street, but in the distance we had a great view of two sets of snow capped mountains. We did hear a bit of street traffic at night, but not excessive. We always put the temperature control on "fan" for the benefit of white noise that helps us sleep at night. The pool view rooms would be nice too, or gondola view (& maybe a little quiter). I preferred the street/mountain view.
-The bellman informed us that the laundry machines operate for free even though it looks like you have to put coins in, and room service provides Tide. Nice bonus since we just finished 4 days camping.
-Beautiful, large pool, with two jacuzzis. The spa looked nice too with a variety of services. Also, I didn't notice that they advertised it online, but there is quite a variety of kids activities during the day and evening that are very reasonably priced. Ex: jewelry making for 1 1/2 hrs for maybe $15?, nature walks, nature crafts $10-15?, and other activities up to about $25 per kid.
-No pressure or even mention of buying a time share.
-Nice bath amenities from Bath & Body works.
-Both rooms have their own bathroom, and one has a tub/shower, the master has a shower and a jacuzzi/jetted tub. There are also two fireplaces & tv's, one in each room.
-Looks like every room has a balcony but ours was off the bedroom.
This is truly a beautiful hotel. We've stayed at some nice places, like Squaw Valley Resort and a comparable 1 bedroom room was at least $100 more. We also like Embassy Suites but thought we'd try something different this time. We want to come back to this Marriott every year now. The only thing negative would be the gal at the front desk who works in the afternoon because she was not very friendly. Everyone else was great. Also, there is a $22 valet parking fee per day which is a lot. However, when I compared Embassy suites rates without parking & breakfast, this hotel's rates were still less. And Squaw Valley is much more than both hotels. I think we got a better rate with AAA and because we stayed mid June, before summer high season. I do hours of research before booking a hotel, and thanks to tripadvisor we have been very fortunate on our vacations.
