We arrived at the Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort after a pretty tiring day of driving in from San Fran, and we got lost in the area around Tahoe. One of the desk workers was good enough to guide us back to the resort. When we arrived, the always friendly valet workers greeted my wife and I. I must say, I never say any of them not wearing a smile, and first impressions go a long way. They were very good about getting your car quickly to and fro from the parking lot.
When we checked in, since it was my birthday, the desk clerk Katherine gave me a bottle of wine. Very nice touch. She then directed me to the concierge, which is code for time share workers. Since we were very tired, we really didn't want to discuss this, so I politely but directly told the man that I was not interested. After a brief exchange, he finally saw it was useless to try to convince us, especially the mental frame of mind that I was in at the time.
The studio room we rented, we are owners of Diamond and we exchanged for this, was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The closet space was tight, smaller than hotel rooms even, but we managed no problem. The only glitch was the telephone did not work the entire time we were there, which was four nights. This made it a small hastle in contacting the valet, but since we were never in a huge hurry, we would just go directly to the valet window instead. They tried to fix the phone, but said it was some wire connection problem...whatever.
I did eat breakfast at the restaurant all four days, thought it was good. The servers I thought tried hard to please and accommodate me. I liked that they had an outdoor balcony where you could eat and look over the lake. One night they had a bar b que, that I did not go to, but looked like fun and the food looked good. I did meet the restaurant manager and he seemed very committed to making his restaurant the very best. I also liked the bar area, very friendly bartenders and enjoyed meeting some fellow guests there as well. When we booked the sightseeing tour to Emerald Bay, through Blue Wave, the concierge, named Brenna, also was very helpful and nice.
All in all, a very nice and memorable time. Were there negatives...sure. Every place has some. The pool was usually too crowded to get in, as were the hot tubs. But I still managed to get in the hot tub later in the night, and even spent one night in the dry sauna.
Here is a resort that clearly tries hard to please, and the location and the amenities make this a good choice to stay in South Lake Tahoe.
