WOW !!! WOW!!! WOW!!!

What can I say we spent 3 nights, as we drove up the drive we were greeted at the top, the whole time we were there the service was outstanding, food wonderfull, simming in the pool, playing golf, walking through the grounds and orchards. we used the tandem bike so romantic one of the best if not THE best hotel I have ever stayed in.

I felt taken advantage of when I left Mangapapa. For three nights of accommodations, with breakfast, my wife and I spent US$2700. We elected for the B&B package so that we could meet some locals at the restaurants during lunch and dinner. We are glad we went that route.

Yes the room was nice but I only slept there. The grounds are well kept but small. If you want to go for a longer walk, jog or bike ride you will be on the main road with all of the farm vehicles (envision diesel exhaust). Travel times to the vineyards and the coast take a while. The towns are also a fair distance away.

When we return to NZ we will return to Hawkes Bay but will not stay at Mangapapa. The beauty of Hawkes Bay is not solely within the confines of the Lodge's small grounds but in the Bay's landscape, seascapes and its people.

In the case of Mangapapa Lodge, the most expensive space to stay the night is NOT the best choice. Don't fall into the trap that we did.

What a wonderful place!! I booked my stay in May 2003, on a solo trip to NZ. The grounds are beautiful, and surrounded by an apple orchard.
It was quiet and elegant. John Logan and his staff provided superior service. The Macon Suite was very lovely and comforting. I enjoyed pre-dinner wine and after dinner tea in the parlor area next to the fireplace.

The food was excellent as was the service. The staff booked me on a personalised tour of the Hawke's Bay wine country, and a tour of Art-Deco Napier. My guide was personable and it was a lovely day all around.

What a fun, and relaxing experience!... Stay here if you have the chance. My boss is traveling to NZ in late October and I encouraged him to stay at Mangapapa Lodge!
