Description: Open for lunches and Friday evenings for dinner, Black Barn Bistro is the perfect place to spend an hour or two absorbing the atmosphere of Wine Country. It is in the heart of the vineyard surrounded by vines and a table on the large generous veranda lets you look right out across the region. In warmer weather a courtyard covered by a canopy of grapes is also a perfect place to enjoy lunch and a glass of wine. The restaurant menu is light, fresh and delicious. There is an emphasis on freshly grown Hawkes Bay produce, the selection changes with the seasons. The bistro is available for private functions, evening and during the day, it is also the perfect venue for a very limited number of weddings, for bookings or enquiries please give us a call.

Girls weekend away in Napier. Had a wonderful lunch at the bistro. All staff were very friendly. Highly recommend the pork belly and strawberry carpaccio dessert. Certainly recommend you eat there.

“Proud Kiwi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Black Barn Restaurant......wow!! It is no wonder that they are recipients of the prestigious NZ Cuisine Award for Best Winery Restaurant! What a fantastic experience of culinary delight unsurpassed any where in a NZ vineyard! But the most amazing aspect of it all was that they catered to over 60 people to end our business conference in Napier. The co-ordination and the focused delivery of the 3 course meal was like watching 'poetry in motion'! Staff service complimented the gastronomical menu as well as the Black Barn wines that were presented to us and I couldn't resist the temptation to complimenting the chefs for their work of art and skill! So ..whoever was responsible for the whole operation ...please take a bow and pat your selves on the back... If this is the standard of excellence toward customer service and devine food quality of the restaurant I look forward to experiencing the smaller operation of the Black Barn Bistro with much anticipation. As you're wines and hospitality are part of our NZ tourist industry I,m so proud to be KIWI.

“beautiful food pity about the service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

we were a group of seven and were on a wine tour, We were looking forward to the lunch and I have to say that it was beautiful. Pork belly cooked beautifully and also the steak although the waitress did not announce whose steak was whose and so my husband got his medium rare and our friend got his well done when they had ordered the other way round. I felt that the staff were very off Standish not welcoming and when we had entered into do wine tasting the two girls out the front did not even acknowledge us not to mention one was chewing gum!! although the food was lovely based on the service I probably wouldn't return in a hurry. we had been to a number of other places that same day and we were always greeted with warm smiles and great service.

“Amazing flavours”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

We had a lovely dinner in the bistro and the flavour of the lamb cooked two ways was delicious. The portions were not large, but the taste was amazing. My partner had the calamari that was meant to have chilli and be a bit spicy but was quite mild. He then had the pork belly which came with a pineapple salsa and really enjoyed it. To finish off I had the passionfruit panna cotta which finished off my meal beautifully. The only disappointment was hearing an explanation given to a couple next to us about the menu being a 2 or 3 course set menu. We weren't told about that and I would have probably have had entree as well if I'd known. All in all a really nice night

“Beautiful setting -service average”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Stunning outside dining under the grapevines. A beautiful location in a rural setting. Great food. Lovely eggplant and zucchini tart with tempura zucchini flower stuffed with goats cheese. Nice Tukituki Sauvignon blanc. They were prepping for a wedding and the service was slow, erratic but pleasant. It felt like the waiting staff were being pulled away from serving at tables to set up.
