“it was only fish and chips”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

it was only fish and chips, but we travelled 60 miles for it and although the pub was bursting at the seams with end of season cricket players they still managed to produce the best battered haddock, the best hand cut chips and the best minted mushy peas I've had. One word - sumptuous. Oh and the sea bass meal looked pretty good too.

“Delicious Sunday lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

We enjoyed another visit to The George this weekend. Again, the staff were professional and made us feel welcome. The food is well cooked and the menu choice is very varied.
We were 3 vegetarians and a carnivore. The carnivore chose the Sunday roast while there was plenty of choice for the vegetarians, quite unusual for Sunday lunch in many establishments.
The starters and deserts catered for a variety of tastes. All in all a thoroughly good meal , providing good value for money.
The George is located in a peaceful, pretty country, village. It is not far from the A1 and close to Ripon.

“What a find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Lunch off the A1, on our way from Northumberland to Essex. Brilliant food, lovely lady looked after us and this will definitely be our future break point for a journey which we make at least once, twice a year....pity it's not closer to home!

A recently refurbished country inn ideal for intimate wedding parties! We ate here as part of a wedding party. The food was excellent and the service was splendid.
