“Nice hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2014

Hotel is located near the trainstation. The hotel is very basic and rooms are a little bit outdated. However good value for your money. Not much to do or see in Vinh. Breakfast was all Vietnamees, but good.

Other than some black mould in the grout, this is clean and I've so far (staying currently) been treated well by staff. Of note, in my bathroom is a gargantuan bathtub, the first I've seen in Vietnam. Room is large, furnishings are simple but practical. After riding on a bike it is nice to have practical comfort and space.

Only stayed here for 1 night on our way to Laos, nice hotel, would recommend to others. Breakfast finishes at 9am though so missed it as we weren't aware. Bathtub in room and cable tv. Nobody speaks English so really hard to communicate. Absolutely nothing to do in Vinh though - grim Vinh!! Will not go back!!

A friend and I stayed here for just a day on route from Laos to Hanoi. We had no problems with the hotel or the staff, in fact when I reported that the TV was faulty it was replaced within 15 minutes even though I had said it was not important and that I was just reporting it to help future travellers. In fact there were no English language channels anyway.

The hotel is conveniently situated in walking distance to Ho Chi Minh memorial and square - he was born in Vinh. I had a triple room so plenty of space and everything worked including the A/C. The en-suite electric shower was hot. The room had a fridge (2 small bottles of water free) and was carpeted - unlike places I had stayed in in Laos earlier. There was also a electronic safe in the room but I did not feel this was an unsafe hotel, quite the opposite.
This hotel seems to be more geared up to the conference circuit than tourism.
There are 2 lifts serving 7 floors. For anyone looking for panoramic views of Vinh unofficial access to the roof is possible and it is safe, but the view is nothing to get excited about it gives an idea of the size of Vinh that is all.

Would I stay here again? If I was in Vinh - yes, but I can see no reason to come back here.
Probably rates three and a half stars - it is better than "average" but not "very good", I have given them the benefit of the doubt with my four stars.

A group of us on a motorbike guided tour stayed in this hotel for a night. Location is not bad..near to many amenities and shopping complexes ( 1 km ). Reception is stone faced and unfriendly. As guests, we were appalled at the policy of having to pay to park in the hotel's parking lots.. Wouldn't it be smarter for the management to just include these charges into the room tariff ?? Even the tour company which took us there were baffled and ended up negotiating with the hotel's front office to lessen the amount.
Rooms are OK and clean. Nice view from the upper floors. Buffet breakfast was a little above average...good variety Asian servings.
Finally, what irked us the most was after check-out ( we were already on our bikes ready to move) when someone from the front office came out from the lobby and ask us to pay for some towels they claimed were stained. We demanded to see the towels and as it turned out...none were actually stained beyond normal use...some were a little wet...but that is all. They demanded that we buy those towels. Running for time...we were not in the mood to argue and just pay and left the premise. The Tour company swears they will never ever bring anymore guest to this hotel with such a bad policy. In fact, this is the first time in my life having to experience such awkward hotel culture.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We spent one night at Huu Nghi Hotel in Feb 2013. It is a 3-star hotel, with 7 floors. The hotel is quite old but has recently been renovated.

THE PRO'S:

- Location: Centrally located in Vinh City, close to markets, other hotels and restaurants, and main street

- Price: the prices are available on the hotel's website. We paid a total of 1,500,000 for 3 rooms - 2 double rooms and 1 triple room. The triple room has 2 queen beds and 1 king bed, and can actually fit 4 people. I think the prices are excellent!

- Food: We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel's "Dong Nam A" restaurant, which is located on the same floor as the lobby. They have an excellent selection of Vietnamese foods, although the English menu has poor translation. The prices are very good as well. Our dinner came to 1,400,000 including drinks for 7 people. We ordered about 8 different dishes, plus rice, and we were all completely full by the end of the meal. The breakfast buffet (which is included in the hotel price) is also very good and has a wide variety of Vietnamese food.

TIP: In Vinh (and Nghe An in general) the delicacy is eel, so you should try eel congee, stir-fried eel with chili, etc.

- Service: The staff were polite and helpful. Our hot water was not working properly and they fixed the issue promptly.

- Parking: ample parking space, although we had to pay 20,000 VND to park our car overnight.

- Cleanliness: Overall, our bathroom and bedroom are very clean.

THE CON'S:

- Dated decor: the hotel itself is old and has recently undergone renovation. Nevertheless, we could see some tear and wear in the walls. The elevator looks extremely old as well, but at least it still functions properly!

- Boring city: not so much about the hotel but more about the city Vinh itself. There is not much to do here. For us that was fine because it was just a pitstop for us to our actual destination.

Would I stay here again? If I'm back in Vinh for some reason, then yes I would stay here again. Huu Nghi Hotel is a very safe and clean choice!
