Description: The Harvest Table Bistro in the original mill room pays homage to this fertile valley’s proud fruit growing legacy. We combine fresh local produce and hearty peasant-style local dishes with influences from further afield, from Cameroon and Zimbabwe to France, Italy or Argentina, giving them a contemporary, modern twist. The Harvest Table is open daily from 08:00 to 17:00 and on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings (other arrangements can be made). Breakfast is served until 11:30. On Sundays the bistro makes way for a full-blown buffet feast with tables groaning under delectable meat dishes, loads of local vegetables, salads and puddings. So be sure to reserve your table for this one, because it is already a firm favourite amongst locals! We are closed on Mondays, but breakfast will be available for hotel guests. A special harvest dish will be served in your room on the evenings that the restaurant is closed.

“Decent lunch venue when visiting Ceres...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

I came across this restaurant on Trip Advisor and after seeing the reviews immediately booked as I did not want average food on a special trip to Ceres to see the snow.

The owner took my reservation efficiently and in a friendly manner accommodating my request to be near the fire.

Upon arriving the table next to us said that we should order everything including the bill when we see the waiter as the service is slow.

The waiter was not bad but nothing more than average service should be expected here.

We ordered the kids pizza and oxtail pie for my wife and I. The pie was excellent but I felt that there should be more meat. It must be said that between my wife and I we both found hair in our pie. We chose not to mention this to the owner as we did not want to cause a scene and were quite hungry by that time.

The toilets were clean! The pizza was rustic and also very good.

Worth a visit!

“Always excellent service and food at Harvest Table Bistro”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

The Harvest Table Bistro is a must if you are in the Witzenberg Area. Actually it's worth the drive from Cape Town or stay over in the area, they have accommodation too or there are many other fabulous places nearby. Don't miss the chance to drive the Bainskloof pass on your way! Food is always fresh, service friendly and great value. Great location, very popular with families and locals.

“Excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

This place was recommended by someone at a nearby self-catering place my husband and I were staying at for the weekend and we were told that the food was very good.Well,we weren't disappointed at all.It was a cold rainy Sunday afternoon when we got there and we were welcomed promptly and seated at the very cosy fireplace by the very friendly hostess.
Being very close to 3 p.m we missed out on the Sunday buffet but we ordered springbok pie which took a while to arrive but it was well worth the wait. The restaurant was still quite busy at that time of the afternoon and the pie was baked in generous individual portions, therefore the extra time taken. It was very tender and delicious and very filling, served with the mixed veg it really hit the spot. The interior of the restaurant was also very cosy, clean and well looked after. The hostess was very visible, constantly checking up on her patrons and taking care of their wellbeing. This is definitely a place I would recommend and go back to again.

“Great Food at a Great Location (Mountain Pass)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

We stopped by just to look. But the food looked so good we had to eat. It was really fresh. The view was great. Peaceful location. The service was excellent. The waiter helped us a lot with our questions/map.

“Imaginative and hearty dining in the Country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

On a cold, rainy day we were welcomed by a warm fire in the fireplace and an equally warm smile from the waiter. The Harvest Table Bistro is in an original mill room where a cog-wheel gives a nod to the past. We loved the minimalistic country décor with a French feel. The three people in our company ordered Balti Butter Chicken, Chicken-Broccoli Pie and the Indian Lamb Curry.

Harvest Table Bistro says they combine fresh local produce and hearty peasant-style local dishes with influences from further afield, from Cameroon and Zimbabwe to France, Italy or Argentina, giving them a contemporary, modern twist. When our orders arrived, we were not disappointed. The presentation was imaginative. The curry came with a poppadum, the chicken pie was deconstructed with the chicken served on a flatbread, and the butter chicken was served on rice with a poppadum as garnish. The chicken pie was delicious; the butter chicken had a touch of chilly fire and the lamb curry was not of the fire in the mouth kind, but had a very aromatic taste – very good!

Acclaimed artist and illustrator Piet Grobler was commissioned to create the goddess-like harvest nymph, Sophia, for the bistro. She is supposed to symbolise the wholesomeness of this harvest table. And we agree with her. We will be back!
